Published by Johnny Perella in Bowls Notes • 7/29/2011 3:23:01 PM
Dane bland is the zone 4 singles champion following the finals played at West Dubbo last weekend. Playing great attacking bowls he was able to win his semi-final 31-19 against Rob Mclean of Baradine. On Sunday morning he lined up for battle in the final against the highly fancied John Wynne from Nyngan. Dane opened up a great lead and at one stage led 21-4, and he was able to overcome a spirited comeback from Wynne to run out a comfortable 31-17 winner. Winning the prestigious Zone singles qualifies Dane to play in the State finals later in the year, a great reward as he was runner up in this event in 2008.

They traded shot for shot over the final stages and with the scores all locked up at 30 all Paul won the final end with a hard fought single to earn a place in the final.
In social bowls Noel Nicholson and Greig Ball came from a mile behind to score a hard fought 23- 20 win against Ray Jones and John Hodge. In a triples game Terry Hetherington, Gordon Dickson and Nev Whitfield def Graham Dixon, Mike Valentine and Alan Tolhurst 28-10.

A handy field for social and one minor triples match made up the field last Saturday.
In the minor triples Garry McPhee, Steve Ryan and Wally Austin continued their winning way with a convincing 28-20 win over Craig and Paul Henry.
On the social scene best game was a heavyweight clash which saw Col Hayward and Graham Barby just hold off Baldy Frame and John Keogh 23-20.

In a battle of the ladies Rhona Went and Gwenda Carty proved too strong for Liz Byrne and Kate Keogh 27-20.

Arthur Corbett teamed with John Ward to out fox Bruce Orr and Greig Ball 23-18 and despite dropping an eight Ray Jones and John Edwards won a good match against Terry Hetherington and Ron Murray 26-20. Max Tomkins and Ryan McLuckie had too many guns for Mike Valentine and Steve Turner running out 27-11 winners.

This Saturday there will be social bowls plus matches, I believe the final of the minor pairs will be played as well as the rest of the first round of the major triples.
Looking after the day will be Steve Ryan and Wally Austin.
