Here’s the latest from the Bowlie.
Social Bowls.
Thursday, July 13.
A field of twenty-two bowlers (including two visitors from Orange City Club) played four games of Pairs and one of Triples.
One of our visitors, John Payne, joined with Bruce Deland to play Col Mudie and Steve Ryan. The early ends were evenly divided but Col and Steve got the upper hand and by the end of the ninth end they had a lead of 13-5. John and Bruce gradually got back into the match and after fourteen ends the scores were level, 15 all. Both teams scored well on the next few ends and with one end to play the scores were again level, 21 all. John and Bruce scored the important shot on the last end to win, 22-21.
In another Pairs match, Warren Bevan and John Carr won the first end to lead Keith MacRae and Greg Huggins, 3-0 but after six ends the scores were level 6 all. With the help of a five on the tenth end Keith and Greg opened up a lead of 19-12 by the end of the thirteenth end. Warren and John fought back and after seventeen ends finally took the lead back, 22-20. However, Keith and Greg won the next three ends and eventually win the match 24-23.
The Triples match was also a close affair. The team of Guy Ellery, Rob Irving and Bob Freeman had the better of the early ends against Graham Dixon, Mick Craft and Bill Skinner to lead 19-2 after eight ends. Graham’s team fought back well but just failed to bridge the gap and Guy’s team won the match 24-22.
The other results were;
Gary McPhee and George Bradley had a win over Ron Hornery and John Taylor 22-13.
Geoff Freeman and John Watson got the better of Greg Hough (visiting from Orange) and Les Kent 27-20.
The Prize winners were John Payne and Bruce Deland and the Runners-up prize went to Keith MacRae and Greg Huggins.
