Here's the latest from the Bowlie.
Club Championship.
The Final of the Club Major Pairs Championship was played on Saturday, July 16 and what a game it was.
Four of the first six ends went to Brett Frame and Paul Henry and they lead 9 – 2 before Graham Fliedner and Dave Johnson won the next six ends to lead 13 – 9. By the end of the seventeenth end the score was tied at 15 all. With one end to play, Brett and Paul had the advantage of a three shot lead, 19 -16. On the last end Graham and Dave played some great bowls and held the three shots they needed to force the extra end but, with the last bowl of the day, Brett played a brilliant shot and managed to turn the three shots down into scoring three shots to win the Championship 22-16.
Congratulations to Brett and Paul on their win but also to Graham and Dave for making a great match of it.
Grade 2 State Pennants.
The draw has been made for the No. 2 State Pennants finals to be held at Ettalong Memorial Bowling Club on the weekend of July 30 to August 1.
In the first Round–Robin stage our team will play off against teams from East Maitland, St. Johns Park and St. Mary’s RSL for the right to advance to the Semi-finals and hopefully the finals.
Our team has been selected and the three rinks will be:
Paul Henry, Mark Dwyer, John Davies and Garry Carberry.
Geoff Freeman, Tom Furey, Tom Casey and Graham Fliedner.
Peter McPhee, Dave Johnson, Col Hayward and Brett Frame.
Best of luck in the finals, here’s hoping for a good result.

Twelve players turned out to play three games of Pairs.
In one of the matches, between John Hodge and Graham Barby and John Corcoran and Dave Buggie, the scores were fairly even and after fifteen ends were tied at 13 all. Although each team won three of the last six ends, John and Graham outlasted John and Dave to win the match 19 – 16.
In the other matches Col Mudie and Bill Skinner were too strong for John Ward and Rob Irving and Nev Willis (visiting from Parkes Railway club) teamed with Bob Freeman to defeat Greg Huggins and Gordon Dickson.
Prize winners were Col Mudie and Bill Skinner.
Saturday, July 16.

From there on the game was fairly even and with one end to play it was tied at 20 all. John and George won the final end to take the match 24-20.
Warren Bevan and Rhona Went were too good for Mark Dwyer and Mike Valentine and the other Pairs match went to John Hodge and Gordon Dickson over Pat Cooney and Jim Blake.
