All Grades Win Pennant Matches

Here's the latest from the Bowlie.
PENNANTS.
After some disappointments in early rounds The Club finally had a reason to celebrate with all grades winning Round 4 at the weekend.
Playing at home, Grade Two had a win over Lithgow City winning the games 2 to 1 and the aggregate score 62 – 45. Brett “Baldy” Frame’s team won 24 – 13 and Col Hayward’s team won 22- 15. Graham “Flip” Fliedner’s team went down in a close match by four shots, 16 – 20.
Playing against Canowindra, the Grade Five side also won the games 2 to 1 and the aggregate score 29 – 53. John Corcoran’s team won 27 -17 and Warren Bevan’s team won by a similar margin, 24 – 15. In another close match Col Mudie’s team went down by three shots, 18 – 21.
To make it three matches out of three the Grade Seven side also had a win against Peak Hill, winning all three games and the aggregate score 76 – 41. Keith MacRae’s team had a comfortable win, 27 -12, Steve Turner’s team won by eleven shots, 23 – 12 and Greg Townsend’s team won by nine shots, 26 – 17.
Congratulations to all three Grades and best of luck next weekend when the Grade Two’s play Grenfell, the Five’s travel to Forbes and the Seven’s play at Condobolin.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.
In Major singles matches, on Thursday, April 7, Mike Valentine had a close win over Ron Hornery. The lead changed several times throughout the match and after thirty-four ends Ron appeared to have the upper hand when he lead 28 – 26 but Mike scored five shots on the next two ends to win the match 31 – 28. On Friday, April 8, Graham “Flip” Fliedner proved too strong for Ray Jones and on Saturday, April 9 Brett “Baldy” Frame had a win over Steve Turner.
Also on Saturday, a Major Pairs match resulted in a win for Graham “Flip” Fliedner and Dave Johnson over Geoff Freeman and Guy Ellery (substitute for John Carr).
SOCIAL BOWLS.
Thursday, April 7.
Twenty-two bowlers turned out to play four games of Pairs and a game of Triples.
The team of Geoff Freeman and Jim Blake got away to a great start against Col Hayward and John Watson. They won ten of the first thirteen ends to lead 21 -6. Col and John then won seven of the last eight ends out scoring Geoff and Jim 15 -3 but just failed to catch them, going down 24 – 21.
Other winners were Col Mudie and Graham Dixon, Keith MacRae and Les Kent, Warren Bevan and Rob Irving and the Triples match went to Brett “Baldy” Frame, John Ward and Gordon Dickson.
The Winners Prize went to Geoff Freeman and Jim Blake and the Runners-up were Col Mudie and Graham Dixon.
Saturday, April 9.
Two games of Pairs were played and two games of Triples.
In a Pairs match, Tom Furey and Craig Henry had a close game against John Ward and John Hodge with each side having the lead on a number of ends and after thirteen ends the two Johns lead 16 – 15. Tom and Craig then won seven of the last eight ends to claim victory 24 – 17.
The Triples match between the teams of Col Mudie, Rob Irving and John Watson and Arthur Corbett, Wally Austin and Joe Crowley saw first one team then the other have the advantage. Col’s team won nine of the first thirteen ends to lead 20 – 8 but then Arthur’s team took over and won seven of the last eight ends to win 30 – 22.
The other Pairs match was an easy win for Steve “Nimo” Mills and Ray Jones and the Triples match was won by John Dunn, George Boatswain and Jim Blake.
The Winners prize on the day went to Brett Frame and John O’Malley (Marker for the Championship match) and the Runners-up prize went to the team of John Dunn, George Boatswain and Jim Blake.
UPCOMING BOWLS EVENTS
Grades 2, 5 and7 Pennants will be played on Sunday, April 17.
On Thursday, May 12 a team of bowlers from the ACT are visiting the club for a day of Social Bowls.
On the weekend of May 14/15 an Open Pairs event, sponsored by Tom Casey’s Company – Casey Surveying and Design, will be played.

GENERAL.
Friday Night
Come along and buy the winning tickets in the “Early Birds” meat tray raffle at about 6.30pm followed by the major raffle with prizes of meat trays, vouchers and cash which will be drawn at about 8 o’clock.
Great Pub style meals are available at reasonable prices from Mel’s Café.
The Badge draw wasn’t won last Friday and this week will be worth $1300.
