Sunday Bowls Jackpot Ready To Be Won

Here's the latest from the Bowlie.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
Four club championship matches were played this last week.
The Minor Singles match saw a titanic struggle, which went down to the last bowl, between Wilbur Harris and Tom Furey. After the score was 7 all, Tom hit the lead and led 14-7 before extending that to 28-20. Wilbur dug deep and won six of the next eight ends to level the score at 30 all. The last deciding end saw Wilbur hold two shots with Tom having one bowl to play. Tom rose to the occasion and rested his bowl on Wilbur’s shot bowl to score one shot and claim a 31-30 win.
Major Singles saw Joe Crowley play Michael Went. Joe held an early 12-5 lead before Michael started to play more consistent bowls which saw him take a 21-17 lead. Michael then won all remaining ends played to run out a 31-17 winner.
Two Major Pairs matches were played.
The father and son team of Warwick and Matthew Parker played Mike Valentine and Kevin Hynds. Mike and Kevin had a dream start when they scored six shots on the first end and then led 10-2 after four ends. Warwick and Matthew then settled into the match and won 10 of the next 12 ends to grab a 20-13 lead. Mike and Kevin hit back and scored eight shots on the next two ends to hold a narrow 21-20 lead. The last three ends were hotly contested but it was Mike and Kevin who came out on top, scoring one shot on each of the last three ends to record a 24-20 win.
The other pairs match saw Wally Austin and Gary McPhee up against Paul Henry and Baldy Frame. Paul and Baldy led throughout, however they had to battle hard to keep on top of Wally and Gary. They led 9-1 before Wally and Gary came back to trail by just two shots, 8-10. Paul and Baldy then won four of the next five ends to establish a handy 20-12 lead. The last seven ends saw each team score four shots for Paul and Baldy to run out 24-16 winners.
DISTRICT PENNANTS
Last Sunday Grade 6 played Condobolin at Parkes Bowling & Sports Club and had a narrow 54-52 win.
Team scores were:
Nimo Mills, Craig Henry, Ron Hornery and Bruce Orr lost 13-21.
Chris Dunn, John O’Malley, Gary McPhee and Kevin Hynds won 21-15.
Noel Nicholson, John Dunn, Ted Wright and Keith MacRae won 20-16.
Next Sunday Grade 6 play Forbes at Forbes.
Grade 7 played Condobolin at Condobolin and had a 72-56 win.
Team scores were:
Ron Murray, Colin Woods, Stuart Kelly and George Boatswain won 24-16.
John Lutton, Bill Skinner, Rob Irving and Greg Townsend won 33-12.
Gordon Dickson, Bernie Mitchell, Wally Austin and Steve Turner lost 15-28.
Next Sunday Grade 7 play Peak Hill at Parkes Bowling and Sports Club.
ZONE PENNANTS
Grades 1 and 4 are playing at Zone level and played their first matches last weekend.
Grade 1 played Dubbo City at Parkes Bowling & Sports Club and had a 69-44 loss.
Team scores were:
Geoff Freeman, Warwick Parker, Tom Casey and Michael Went lost 11-25.
Paul Henry, Graham Barby, Warren Bevan and Graham Fliedner lost 19-24.
Dave Johnson, Eddie McPhee, Col Hayward and Brett Frame lost 14-20.
Next Sunday Grade 1 play West Dubbo at West Dubbo.
Grade 4 played Dubbo Railway at Dubbo Railway and had a 62-44 win.
Team scores were:
Mike Valentine, Peter McPhee, Mark Dwyer and Arthur Corbett lost 18-23.
Matthew Parker, John Carr, Steve Ryan and John Corcoran won 22-7.
Tom Furey, John Hodge, John Ward and Colin Mudie won 22-14.
Grade 4 will not play next weekend as their match against Coonabarabran has been rescheduled to Saturday, May 9.
THURSDAY JACKPOT BOWLS
20 bowlers played five games of pairs.
After trailing 10-11, Mick Blunt and John Corcoran finished strongly to defeat Phill Hellies (Wyong) and Warren Bevan 21-15.
Noel Nicholson and Eddie McPhee played John Carr and Col Hayward. John and Col held a 13-9 lead after 10 ends. Noel and Eddie then won the next seven ends to lead 27-13 and went on to win the game 31-16.
In a very close game, which saw the score tied on four occasions, John Keogh and Steve Ryan had a 16 all draw with Ray Jones and Geoff Freeman. John and Steve won the ends 11-10.
After the score was 16 all after 17 ends, Bob Freeman and John Hodge won the last four ends to defeat Bill Skinner and Ted Wright 23-16.
Allan Wright and Arthur Corbett led all the way in their 27-15 win over John Ward and John Dunn.
The major prize winners were Noel Nicholson and Eddie McPhee and the minor winners were Mick Blunt and John Corcoran. The jackpot was not won.
SATURDAY SOCIAL BOWLS
26 bowlers played five games of pairs and one triples.
In the triples game Wes Westcott, Ron Hornery and Steve Ryan and a comfortable 24-12 win over Keith Alexander, John Dunn and Kevin Hynds.
After holding a narrow 16-13 lead, Mike Valentine and Phill Hellies dominated the final ends to record a 25-17 win over Ray Jones and Dave Johnson.
John Ward and Col Mudie dominated throughout to record a 34-12 win over Wally Austin and Steve Turner.
Man of the match, Bernie Mitchell teamed with Geoff Freeman to play John Carr and Gary McPhee. The score was 8 all after nine ends. Bernie and Geoff won the next five ends to lead 19-8 and went on to win 24-16.
In a close game George Boatswain and Maureen Bailey just edged out Col Woods and Keith MacRae 22-20.
Graham Barby and John Hodge played Eddie McPhee and Baldy Frame. Graham and John held an early 11-1 lead and still held a 21-13 lead after 17 ends. Eddie and Baldy won the last four ends to get within two shots. Graham and John held on to win 21-19.
The major prize winners were John Ward and Col Mudie and the minor winners were Graham Barby and John Hodge.
SUNDAY MORNING JACKPOT
14 bowlers played two games of pairs and one triples.
After leading 12-3, Nimo Mills and Kevin Hynds hung on to defeat the fast finishing team of Chris Dunn and Craig Henry 14-11.
Dean Searl and Maureen Bailey had a big 22-5 win over Phill Hellies and Mal Porter.
In the triples game Don Littlewood, Keith Hutchison and Gladrin Sun had a narrow 15-12 win over Bob Freeman, Malcolm Watt and Mick Blunt.
Prize winners were Gladrin Sun, Phill Hellies, Keith Hutchison, Craig Henry and Mick Blunt.
The jackpot was not won and remains at $1000. The jackpot number range has been reduced to 1-3 so come along on Sunday morning for a game of bowls, a sausage sandwich, and a great chance of winning the jackpot. Names in by 9:30am for a 10:00am start.
