Frame On The Way To Defend Singles Title

Here's the latest from the Bowlie.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
Steve Ryan played Bernie Mitchell in a Minor Singles match which started on Tuesday afternoon and finished on Thursday afternoon. The score was 10 all when rain halted play late Tuesday afternoon. When play resumed on Thursday Stave was red hot in winning the next seven ends to race to a 24-10 lead. Bernie won the next two ends to reduce the margin to 24-13. Steve then won the next three ends to take the match 31-13.
Baldy Frame played John Corcoran in a Major Singles match. John held a 7-1 lead before Baldy won 10 ends in a row to hold a handy 23-7 lead. John won four of the next five ends to reduce the deficit to 26-14. Baldy then won five of the next six ends to take the match 31-15.
THURSDAY JACKPOT BOWLS
23 bowlers played three games of pairs and two triples.
Mick Blunt, John Dunn and Arthur Corbett played Les Kent, Mike Valentine and Jeff Matters. Mick, John and Arthur dropped four shots on the first end before winning 10 of the next 12 ends to lead 16-7. Les, Mike and Jeff fought back to reduce the lead to just four shots with one end to play. Mick, John and Arthur picked up three shots on the last end to win the game 23-16.
The other triples game saw Bob Freeman, Bill Skinner and Dave Buggie play John Watson, playing lead and second, and John Carr in a 25 end game. The score was 12 all after 15 ends. The two John’s held a 19-15 lead before Bob, Bill and Dave finished strongly, winning the last five ends to take the game 24-19.
Geoff Freeman and Col Mudie played Graham Barby and Col Hayward. Geoff and Col held a narrow 8-7 lead after nine ends. Graham and Col won nine of the next ten ends to establish a big 32-10 lead and they went on to win the game 32-15.
Allan Wright and Jim Jennings played Ian Mill and John O’Malley. Allan and Jim held a narrow 10-8 lead after 11 ends. They then scored 11 shots on the next three ends to extend their lead to 21-8. Ian and John scored 11 shots on the next five ends to trail 21-19. Allan and Jim scored five shots on each of the last two ends to take the game 31-19.
Ron Hornery and Gary McPhee played John Hodge and Keith MacRae. Ron and Gary led 8-7 after 9 ends. John and Keith then dominated the rest of the game, winning six of the last nine ends played, to take the game 25-14.
Major prize winners were Graham Barby and Col Hayward with the minor prize winners being John Hodge and Keith MacRae. The jackpot was not won and will be $120 tomorrow.
SATURDAY SOCIAL BOWLS
26 bowlers took to the green for social bowls on Saturday afternoon and played five games of pairs and one triples.
Bob Freeman, Steve Ryan and Nimo Mills only lost five ends in their 39-9 win over Ron Murray, Wally Grant and John Dunn.
Liz Byrne and Mark Dwyer played Col Woods and Gary McPhee. The game saw four changes to the lead in the first 14 ends at which stage Col and Gary led 13-11. Liz and Mark scored 10 shots on the next four ends, including one six shot end, to take the lead 21-13. Col and Gary won the next two ends to narrow the lead to 21-18. Liz and Mark picked up four shots on the last end to record an 25-18 win.
Guy Ellery and Dave Johnson had a good start, and aided by one seven shot end, led Les Kent and Bruce Orr 16-4 after 10 ends. The rest of the game was evenly shared with Guy and Dave going on to win 26-14.
Rhona Went and Dave Buggie played Rob Irving and Joe Crowley. Rhona and Dave held a 21-7 lead after 13 ends. Rob and Joe won four of the next five ends to trail 23-19. The last three ends were hard fought with one shot being scored on each end for Rhona and Dave to win 25-20.
Ron Fisher and Mike Valentine played Stuart Kelly and Tom Furey. Ron and Mike led 14-11 after 14 ends. They then picked up another 10 shots over the concluding ends to win the game 24-14.
Alan Affleck and Arthur Corbett only lost five ends in their 31-9 win over Bill Skinner and John Carr.
Major winners were Alan Affleck and Arthur Corbett with the minor prize going to Bob Freeman, Steve Ryan and Nimo Mills.
TWILIGHT BOWLS
Unfortunately rain washed out both Tuesday and Thursday twilight bowls. Bowlers need to have their name in by 5:30pm on Tuesdays with play commencing at 6:00pm.
SUNDAY MORNING JACKPOT
16 bowlers played four games of pairs which featured one drawn game, two one shot margins and one three shot margin.
In a game where the lead change four times, Mal Porter and Craig Henry scored two shots on the last end to record an 16 all draw with Tom Furey and Dave Johnson. Tom and Dave won the ends 8-6.
Chris Dunn and Maureen Bailey played Elaine Miller and Steve Turner. Chris and Maureen led 16-7 then Elaine and Steve scored 11 shots on the next three ends to lead 18-16. Chris and Maureen scored one shot on the last end which saw Elaine and Steve win the game 18-17.
Bob Freeman and Gladrin Sun, aided by two six shot ends, led Malcolm Watt and Ted Wright 17-12 before Malcolm and Ted scored three shots on each of the last two ends to claim victory 18-17.
Keith Hutchison and Guy Ellery scored six shots on the tenth end to lead Mick Blunt and John Dunn 15-8. Mick and John tried hard to bridge the gap but Keith and Guy held on for a 18-15 win.
Prize winners were Tom Furey, John Dunn, Malcolm Watt, Keith Hutchison and Mal Porter.
The jackpot was not won and remains at $1000. The jackpot number range is being reduced each week so come along on Sunday morning for a game of bowls, a sausage sandwich, and a chance to win the jackpot. Names in by 9:30am for a 10:00am start.
