Here's the latest news from the Bowlie.
One major pairs club championship match was played on Saturday with Wilbur Harris and Mark Dwyer up against Alan Affleck and Joe Crowley. The first 10 ends were hard fought with only 11 shots being scored with Wilbur and Mark holding a narrow 6-5 lead. Wilbur and Mark then won three of the next four ends to extend their lead to 16-6. Alan and Joe fought back, scoring six shots on the next two ends to narrow the lead to 16-12. Wilbur and Mark steadied, winning three of the next four ends to open up a nine shot margin, and went on to win the match 21-14.
TUESDAY TWILIGHT BOWLS
14 bowlers played one game of triples and two pairs.
In the triples game Bob Freeman, Graham Phillips and Greg Townsend won the last seven ends to score a 23-7 win over Eileen Bradley, George Bradley and Geoff Leonard.
The first pairs game saw Les Kent and Dave Johnson score a 24-9 win over John Watson and Steve Clegg.
In the other pairs game Guy Ellery and Tom Furey scored a 19-10 win over John Dunn and Gary McPhee.
Major prize winners were Bob Freeman, Graham Phillips and Greg Townsend with Guy Ellery and Tom Furey being the minor prize winners.
Tuesday bowls need names in by 5:30pm with play commencing at 6:00pm.
THURSDAY JACKPOT BOWLS
28 bowlers played seven games of pairs.
Ian Mill and Bernie Mitchell led 14-3 after 10 ends and held on to record a 23-16 win over Bob Freeman and Max Tomkins.
Jim Jennings and Warren Bevan only lost four ends in their 28-11 win over Rob Irving and Col Mudie.
After holding a narrow 14-13 lead, Mick Blunt and John Corcoran won the last five ends to defeat Gordon Dickson and Arthur Corbett 22-13.
Col Woods and Ron Hornery came from an 8-12 deficit to defeat Allan Wright and Graham Dixon 19-14.
In a low scoring game, Col Hornery and John Dunn had a narrow 14-12 win over John Watson and Kevin Hynds.
Steve Ryan and John Hodge held a 20-4 lead after 12 ends and held on to defeat Greig Ball and Gary McPhee 26-17.
The last game saw Les Kent and John Ward play Bill Skinner and Graham Barby. Les and John led 15-5 then Bill and Graham won the next five ends to level the score at 15 all. Les and John won four of the last six ends to record a close 21-18 win.
Major prize winners were Ian Mill and Bernie Mitchell with the minor prize winners being Col Woods and Ron Hornery. The jackpot was not won and will be $80 tomorrow.
SATURDAY SOCIAL BOWLS
26 bowlers took to the green for social bowls on Saturday afternoon and played five games of pairs and one triples.
The triples game saw Gordon Dickson, Les Kent and Wally Austin score a 19-15 win over Col Woods, Stuart Kelly and Peter McPhee.
Max Tomkins and John Corcoran were too strong for Keith Alexander and Gary McPhee and won the game 24-15.
Tom Furey and John Carr combined well to defeat Rob Irving and Maree Grant 26-11.
Adam Beiderman and Ron Hornery had a good 25-17 win over Tony Byrne and Keith MacRae.
Nimo Mills and John Hodge played Ray Jones and Liz Byrne in a very entertaining game. Ray and Liz held a good 18-8 lead after 12 ends and still led 22-13 after 17 ends. Nimo and John stormed home scoring 10 shots on the last four ends, including five shots of the very last end, to snatch an unlikely victory 23-22.
Bill Skinner and Mike Valentine won 10 of the first 14 ends to lead Ron Fisher and Gwenda Carty 19-6. Ron and Gwenda won the next six ends to level the score at 19 all after the penultimate end. Bill and Mike scored one shot on the last end for a 20-19 win.
Major winners were Bill Skinner and Mike Valentine with the minor prize going to Nimo Mills and John Hodge.
THURSDAY TWILIGHT BOWLS
60 bowlers took to the greens in ideal conditions.
Central West Glass held a 10-2 lead over Mike’s Kitchen after nine ends. Mike’s Kitchens then won five of the next six ends to level the score 11 all. Central West Glass prevailed in the last end to win 12-11.
Casey Surveying 2 and Rok F-M had a titanic struggle and could not be separated after 16 ends. The score was 14 all with each team winning eight ends.
After leading 10-2, Saints held on to record a 15-11 win over Back Trundle Road 2.
Back Trundle Road 3 scored three shots on the last end to record a come from behind 10-9 win over Orange Thunder.
Major prize winners were Back Trundle Road 1 with Bowl Bros being the minor prize winners. Lucky losers prize went to Mike’s Kitchen.
SUNDAY MORNING JACKPOT
8 bowlers played two games of pairs.
Ian Simpson and Tom Furey had a good 12-8 win over Chris Dunn and Dave Johnson.
Bob Freeman and Keith Hutchison had a narrow 14-13 win over Ian Brown and Mick Blunt.
Prize winners were Keith Hutchison, Bob Freeman and Chris Dunn.
The jackpot was not won and remains at $1000. The jackpot number range is being reduced each week so come along on Sunday morning for a game of bowls, a sausage sandwich, and a chance to win the jackpot. Names in by 9:30am for a 10:00am start.
