Welcome to this weeks news, well Elvis has left the building, what a week, the club has been rocking and rolling for the past 4 days, isn't the Elvis Festival a magnificent event, the buzz around town was awe inspiring, congratulations to every one involved in its running.
BUSINESS HOUSE BOWLS
Listen in people, the bowls start TONIGHT, Wednesday nighters contact your teams and be at the club at 6pm for a 6.30pm start, Thursday nighters, you have an extra day to organize. Any new teams will be most welcome, either night, be at the club and contact Graham Barby with your details.
SOCIAL BOWLS.
Thursday afternoon saw 44 bowlers on the green, and a team of visitors won the day George Biggins and Mick Taylor won the money, Runners up being Mick Furney and Tom Hamilton, there were some fairly big wins on the day, but a couple of closer ones saw Wally Grant and Col Hayward win over Noel Nicholson and Warren Bevan 26/19 and John Ward and Arthur Corbett beat Bruce Orr and Ron Hornery 18/15.
Saturday afternoon saw 16 bowlers take to the green, and as there were no results marked on the cards,I can't give any results.
SUNDAY CHICKEN RUN.
20 bowlers were present, this is bigger than normal, so we must have had some visitors playing, the winners on the day were Glen Evans Ted Wright and Chris Dunn, the Jackpot was not won, so $1000 next Sunday, the Jackpot is fixed at $1000, so next week a couple of numbers will be taken off, to help reduce the odds, and the numbers will be reduced weekly.
GENERAL NEWS.
The District triples has reached the final stage, with Mick Went,Graham Barby and Col Hayward to play Brian Asimus Russell Dietrich and Bruce William, at Forbes next Saturday at 1pm, this is a classic Parkes v Forbes event, so I would think there will be quite a few spectators going over to cheer on the boys, and to show I am not biased, Common Parkes.
Nominations for both Minor and Major Singles and Pairs are now open, they will close on 5th February,( entry fee $5 per player ), so when you nominate remember, its play, get a sub, or forfeit.
The first round of the Major Pairs will be on 3rd March and the Minor Pairs on 4th, there is no date yet for the singles, but remember, you can play them whenever you like, get them over to avoid problems later on, (i.e. bad weather).
We are having a new event at the club, Mixed Pairs on a Sunday afternoon, anyone interested, please have your name in by 3.30pm for a 4pm start, that's
right, a late afternoon start to beat the heat and take advantage of daylight saving. This is a trial, depending on how it goes, we will have another day in February, and if it is really popular, maybe twice a month.
Finally, there will be a working Bee on Saturday morning to spread sand on No 2 Green, so it can be lazar leveled, turn up at about 8am to wheel a barrow or shovel some sand, many hands make light work, it should take about and hour or so.
That's it for this week, hope every one has a great week, see you all at the Bowlie.
