CLASSIC PAIRS
Local teams filled the first three places in the annual classic pair’s tournament played last week. Winners were John Ward and Noel Nicholson with 5w+50, running second was Mick Craft and Phil Collins 5w+44 and coming third was Colin Hayward and Mark Dwyer 4w+57. Next place getters were out of town teams Mario Ruggerio and George Ford Orange 4w+16 and Brian Tisdall and Bill Adams Forbes 4w+14 and rounding out sixth spot was locals John Corcoran and Ray Jones 31/2w+25.

Organisers were happy with the roll up as some 30 sides took part in the two day of competition and we were treated to some fine bowls. The club would like to thank our sponsors Telescope Tyres, Griffins leading edge, G. Hunter &Co and Dwyer’s fresh for their great support and sponsorship making this another success.

SATURDAY BOWLS
Club championship matches dominated the program and the crowd was treated to some great battles. In Major Singles, the toughest struggle was between John Corcoran and Bruce Orr, with the scores locked on 27 all Corky finished with a flourish picking up a three and a single to win the entertaining encounter 31-27. While the score was 31-19 in favour of Graham Barby against Tom Casey, it was no indication of the closeness of a match which was of a very high standard. In the battle of the brothers Robert Corbett got better of his brother Arthur running out a 31-17 winner.

In minor singles after a titanic struggle lasting 32 ends Dave Worthington got the better of Dave Johnson to win 31-25. In major pairs Andrew Trotman and Mick Went were just too good for John Ward and Ken Walsh 33-10. In minor pairs action the Townsends Paul and Ben outclassed John Hodge and Ryan McLuckie 29-14 and Paul Henry and Steve Ryan finished far too strong and won 24-12 against Wally Austin and Steve Turner.

There was also twenty six social bowlers playing five games of pairs and one triples, the stand out games were; Bob Risebourgh and Ellie Hetherington’s close 19-18 win against Col Hayward and Don Littlewood, and Gwenda Carty and Ron Murray winning 17-15 against Wilber Harris and Tony Byrne.

Consistency Comp.

The National Finance and Planning consistency comp is entering its last two weeks for this quarter and there are a number of players with a great chance of winning.
Leading the field is Ted Wright on 19, closely followed by John Davies and Merv Hannock on 18. On 17 points are Josh Mills and Ryan McLuckie, they closely followed by a group of five players on 16 all within striking distance, should be a interesting couple of weeks ahead.

Sunday Bowls.
The No1 pennant side finished their season with a disappointing 5- 1 loss to competition leaders Nyngan at home last Sunday.
Losing two rinks to one only Colin Hayward’s side was able to salvage a win but they had to score a five on the last end to get up 23-22. The Sunday morning social bowls jackpot is up to a very healthy $560, well worth the trip down to have a great morning’s social bowls and have a chance to win some serious money. It appears the season is over for our No6 and No7 sides following their matches at the weekend also.
The No6 side were well beaten 5-1 by Forbes and regulated to second spot by just half a point. They lost on the big board 55-63 with only Phil Collins team winning their rink 27-20, Terry Hetherington and his boys just went down 16-20 but Bruce Orrs team lost 12-23. The No7 side despite winning 4-2 against Peak Hill finished second behind the front runners Condobolin. Both Steve Turner 16-18 and Dave Johnson 11-22 lost their rinks but Greg fisher and his boys saved the day with a handy 27-9 win giving Parkes the aggregate 54-49.
