G'Day, and welcome to this weeks news from the Bowlie.
DISTRICT TRIPLES AND FOURS.
We had a team in both events at Dubbo at the weekend, but unfortunately the Fours went down in the section play, and the Triples got to the Final, where they met a red hot Narromine team, and went down in an extremely tight game, having to play an extra end to get a result, congratulations to both teams.
CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES.
The final of the Minor Triples was played last Thursday, and the team of new comers got up in grand style, Norm Keane Alan Affleck and Joe Crowley had a solid win over Peter McPhee Gary McPhee and Steve Ryan, 24/17, so three new names go up on the Honor Board, congratulations to the three of you.
In a game of round two Major Triples, in an extremely tight game the team of Greig Ball Tom Casey and Col Hayward, just got up over Dave Johnson Terry Hetherington and Keith MacRae 22/20.
SOCIAL BOWLS.
Thursday saw 30 bowlers on the greens, the winners on the day being Ray Jones and Ron Hornery, great to see you back on the green Ron, the runners up Bruce Deland and John Ward, a couple of scores from the Day saw Ray Jones and Ron Hornery get up over Mick Valentine and Kevin Hynds in a close one 23/19, in a much closer game Col Mudie and Graham Barby, just held on to a fast finishing Noel Nicholson and John Corcoran 21/20.
Saturday saw all bowls put off due to the rain, so they stayed inside and played Euchre, 12 bowlers all dressed up and nowhere to go.
SUNDAY JACKPOT BOWLS.
Only a small group met to try for the Jackpot, but it still did not go off, so $860 this Sunday.
GENERAL NEWS.
In a first for the club, a group of bowlers, ladies and men, went to Peak Hill for a social afternoon of bowls, in a mixed Mufti day, all names were put together, and drawn from a bucket, and a great afternoon was had by all, in a general discussion, all our players hoped this style of Travelling Bowlers could continue, with everyone expressing the desire to only go to small clubs, within a radius of 100k, this could involve many clubs who are not in our Zone, I.E. Manildra, Eugowra,Cudal, Molong, Yeoval and Cumnock, this would help the small clubs on a Sunday, where there is no bowls, and they could make a return visit to us, so everyone wins. Lets hear your opinions,
Christmas in July is on this Saturday night, there is still room for more party goers,$25 a head with a Two course meal from our new caterers "Windmills" , plus music from "Fire and Ice" , Michael and Christie Green, a great night is assured.
The Men's AGM is set down for Monday Night 5th August at 7pm, The notice board is set up in the Club Bar, and nominations are open for all positions, so if you have something to offer the Men's Bowling Club, please nominate for a position.
The draw for the Major and Minor Fours has been done, and is on the Board, please get your games over as soon as possible, don't wait for the play by date.
BOWLS STARTERS.
Tomorrow, Thursday, John Hodge and John Ward, Saturday 6th July Dave Johnson and Col Mudie, and next Thursday the 11th, John Carr and Keith Macrae.
