G'Day, and welcome to this weeks news from the Bowlie.
STATE PENNANT PLAYOFFS.
Last weekend our No 2 Pennant Team plus many supporters made the long trip to Tuncurry to take part in the Pennant Playoffs, our games were at the Sporties Club, and in our round robin were teams from Towradgi Park, Host club Tuncurry and Harbord.
First up we met Towradgi Park, and in a dour struggle lost the game 5/1, with a margin of 10 points, the Baldy Frame led rink being our only winner.
After lunch , we met host club Tuncurry, and again went down 5/1, with a margin of 15, again Baldy Frame led from the front.
Sunday morning saw us take on Harbord, with us being out of the running, the boys went to battle with a will, but again luck was against us, going down 5/1, with a margin of 12, and you guessed it, Baldy Frame again led from the front.
With our campaign now over, most of the team and followers left for home but a few intrepid travelers stayed on for the semi's. We went up to the Tuncurry Bowling Club where the other half of the playoffs were being played and our near neighbour Cowra were in the semi's. In an incredible game Cowra played Cabramatta with two rinks finished and the last rink still to play 4 ends, it was nailbiting stuff and when the last bowl went down, it was a draw which meant the other two rinks had to come back onto the green.(Now under lights), To play sudden death bowls to decide a winner and to our great delight, Cowra got up.
On Monday morning the final of the No 2 Pennants were played, with Cowra to play Northmead and unfortunate for Cowra they went down, but still to come home with a Runner Up Flag is a mighty result, congratulations Cowra.
A highlight of the weekend was the number of Parkes people who came to see the boys. People who have left Parkes to live on the Lower North Coast plus people who are on their winter holidays. It was great to see them all again, once a Parkesite, always a Parkesite.
SOCIAL BOWLS.
Thursday afternoon saw 16 bowlers on the green on a cold winters day.The winners being John Ward and Dave Buggie. Whilst on Saturday, on a bright sunny day 36 bowlers took to the greens. The winners being Col Hayward and Alan Affleck, the runners up being Tony Byrne and Kev(Cadel Evans) Hynds.
Also on Saturday there was one game of Minor Fours, where Wes Westcott Laurie Westcott John Hodge (sub) and Glen Pepper, beat Greig Ball Tom Casey Steve Turner and Mike Valentine 20/13.
SUNDAY JACKPOT BOWLS.
12 players fronted for a mornings game and try for the jackpot but it was not won. So now $1000 in a fortnight. No bowls this Sunday due to the Women's Pairs Carnival.
