G'Day and welcome to this weeks news from the Bowlie.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Three games of singles and two games of pairs were played over the weekend,in the Minor Singles games, Guy Bennett beat John Hodge 31/21, in this game Guy hit the front on the second end and was never headed but leading 28/8, Guy sitting on the dreaded 28, saw John make a charge, but the lead was too great, and Guy hung on to win. In the second game , Laurie Westcott had a close win over Wilbur Harris 31/28, this game went for 37 ends and was one of the last games off the Green. Again Wilbur was caught on the dreaded 28, with Laurie on 24, but Laurie came home the stronger and with the help of a four on the second last end, went on to win and in the final game, Kev Hynds beat Greg Townsend 31/25, this game also went for 34 ends, at the 30th end Greg hit the front, 25/24, but Keven came home the stronger, to go on for a good win.
Two games of Major Pairs also were played,Arthur Corbett and Col Hayward had a good win over a gallant Wally Austin and Mike Parkes 22/13, whilst in the other game, the young guns,Craig Cusack and Mick Went were too strong for John Hodge and Rob Tinker, winning 31/12, these games were semi final games, so, next week, the Young guns take on the old guns for the title of Major Pairs Champions, this match will be a beauty, worth travelling many miles to see, I expect to see a large crowd there to cheer on their favorites.
PENNANTS.
Both the Sixes and the Mighty Sevens played away on Sunday, the Sixes heading West to Condobolin, where I am led to believe they had their first win, 5/1, so they are on their way, while the Mighty Sevens were away to Railway, and came home with a big 5/1 win, so we are now chasing Forbes for the top spot, we have three games to go, while Forbes have two and a Bye, so we are looking good for the District Flag.
This Sunday we have FOUR Pennant sides in operation, all at home, it will be a huge afternoon for the Club.
SUNDAY JACKPOT BOWLS.
Only a small crowd fronted to contest the Jackpot Game, but it did not go off, so $500 this Sunday, I suspect the low numbers are due to the Pennant season hitting full swing, both the Sixes and Sevens are into their rounds, while the Fives start this Sunday.
SOCIAL BOWLS.
Thursday saw 14 bowlers on the green, the winners on the day, Greig Ball and Mike Valentine.
Saturday saw 42 bowlers take part on a fine but windy day, the winners on the day, Arthur Corbett and Col Hayward, runners up Bill Skinner Joe Crowley and John Ward.A couple of scores from the day saw the ladies game of Elle Hetherington and Rhona Went beat Laurie Keane and Gwenda Carty 20/15, and in a closer game, Noel Nicholson and Arthur Corbett beat Ray Jones and John Corcoran 22/20.
GENERAL NEWS.
This Sunday will be a huge day for the Club, with four Pennant games on Sunday afternoon, there will be 100 bowlers on the greens and a large crowd of spectators, I would advise everyone to get there early,to get a seat.
Both the Major and Minor Triples are now open, so get your teams together and enter them, both on the sheet on the board, and on the envelope in the box.
Please check the board at the club to see what is listed, and the due dates, remember to get in early, and make the most of the good weather.
Well thats it for this week, see you all at the Bowlie.
