The first round of the new competition in the popular Thursday Night Twilight Bowls was played last week, with a big field of 54 bowlers taking to the greens.
The equal competition winners of the first round, Casey Surveying and Bowl Bros, were both convincingly defeated. Casey Surveying lost 17-7 to Throw Together and Bowl Bros were defeated 18-5 by We Wreck-Em We Fix-Em.
Some of the other games saw Turf N Surf defeat Young Guns 17-8, Crackerjacks defeated Bushies 15-14, Back Trundle Road defeated Three Amigos 12-11, Rok-FM defeated Golden Girls 14-9 and Elle defeated Super Bees 16-12.
The major prize winning team was We-Wreck-Em We-Fix-Em with Battlers winning the minor prize. Bowling Stones won the lucky losers prize.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
The club Singles and Pairs Championships are underway. Four games were played over the last week.
In Major Singles matches, Warren Bevan had a narrow win over Greg Fisher 31-28, Col Hayward was too strong for Greig Ball in winning 31-16 and Gary McPhee led all the way in his 31-16 defeat of Norm Keane.
Noel Nicholson and John Ward played Terry Hetherington and George Boatswain in a Major Pairs match. Terry and George won 9 of the first 14 ends and led 18-17. Noel and John stayed close on the score card by scoring three, five shot ends. The next few ends were very tight with the score being 19 all after 17 ends. Noel and John then won three of the last four ends to claim victory 25-21.
All players are requested to check the draw and arrange to play your match as soon as possible.

SOCIAL
28 bowlers played seven games of Pairs on Thursday afternoon.
Noel Nicholson and Gary McPhee played John Keogh and John Ward. Noel and Gary dominated early and got out to lead 17-7 after 13 ends. The two John’s fought back and won seven of the last eight ends to just fall short on the scorecard. Noel and Gary hung on to win 19-17.
Tony Byrne and Arthur Corbett scored a comfortable 24-14 win over Mike Valentine and John Corcoran.
Bruce Deland and Graham Barby were too strong for Matt Parker and John Carr, winning 23-14.
Rob Irving and Kevin Hynds played Bruce Orr and Steve Ryan. Bruce and Steve held a one shot lead of 13-12 after 15 ends before Kevin played one of his renown trick bowls to score six shots on the 16th end and then he and Rob held on to win 20-17.
Nev Whitfield and Wally Grant scored a big 30-9 win over Alan Affleck and Col Woods.
Gwenda Carty and John Dunn led all the way in recording a 27-13 win over Bob Freeman and Jim Jennings.
The last match saw John Hodge and Graham Fliedner play Ray Jones and Geoff Freeman. John and Graham won the first five ends to lead 14-0 and it looked like a big win was on the cards as they still led 21-8 after 12 ends. Ray and Geoff scored 14 shots over the next five ends to level the score at 22 all. The last four ends were hotly contested with Ray and Geoff prevailing to win by one shot, 25-24.
Major winners were Ray Jones and Geoff Freeman and the minor winners were Gwenda Carty and John Dunn.
On Saturday 22 bowlers played four games of Pairs and one Triples.
In the Triples game Wes Westcott, Ron Murray and John Hodge played Col Woods, Steve Mills and Mike Parkes.
This game was very even and saw the scores tied on four occasions during the match. It was fitting for the game to result in an 18 all draw. Col, Steve and Mike won the ends 11-10.
Rhona Went and Liz Byrne played Steve Turner and Col Hayward. Steve and Col led 16-6 after 12 ends. Rhona and Liz came back to trail 15-17 after 16 ends before Steve and Col won the next three ends and go on to win the game 23-18.
Ray Jones and John O’Malley scored a comprehensive 30-11 win over Max Tomkins and Dave Johnson. Dave told me that Ray was clearly the man of the match.
Allan Wright and Col Mudie played Alan Affleck and Kevin Hynds. This was a close match up to the 14th end when Allan and Col held a narrow 20-17 lead. Allan and Col won five of the next six ends and went on to win 34-18.
Matt Parker and Geoff Freeman played Wilbur Harris and John Davies. In a closely fought game Wilbur and John got a mini break to lead 16-11 after 17 ends. Matt and Geoff won the last four ends to snatch a narrow victory 18-16. Both Matt and Wilbur played very good bowls.
