Here’s the latest from the Bowlie.
MAJOR TRIPLES QUARTER FINAL
Saturday saw Wilbur Harris, Dean Searl and Warren Bevan play Graham Barby, Geoff Freeman and Graham (Flip) Fliedner in a highly entertaining and absorbing match. Team Fliedner held a handy 12-4 lead after nine ends before team Bevan fought back to level at 13 all and then grab the lead 16-15 after 16 ends. Team Fliedner then won three of the next four ends to lead 22-17. Team Bevan scored one shot on each of the next four ends to trail by one shot with one end to play. Graham, Geoff and Flip held two shots when the skips went to the mat. Warren played a great bowl and trailed the jack for his team to hold two shots and the match. It then came down to the very last bowl of the match which saw Flip deliver the perfect bowl to score one shot and take the match 23-21. Graham, Geoff and Flip will now play the team of Paul Henry, Garry Went and Brett Frame for a place in the final.
SOCIAL BOWLS
Thursday saw a good field of 22 bowlers play four games of pairs and one triples.
The triples game saw John Keogh, Les Kent and John Carr record a 22-20 win over Gordon Dickson, Rob Irving and Ron Hornery.
After holding a narrow 15-14 lead, Ted Wright and Ray Jones won the last five ends to defeat Chris Dunn and Warren Bevan 25-14.
Jim Blake and John Hodge led all the way in their 26-16 win over Greg Huggins and Keith MacRae.
After trailing 7-17, Mike Valentine and John Ward won five of the last six ends to narrowly defeat John Dunn and Col Mudie 20-18.
John Watson and Graham Barby played excellent bowls in their 25-15 win over Gladrin Sun and Geoff Freeman.
Major prize winners were John Keogh, Les Kent and John Carr with the minor prize winners being Ted Wright and Ray Jones.
Owing to a large number of bowlers playing in tournaments at Railway Diggers and Grenfell, plus a number of bowlers at Batemans Bay on the travelling bowlers annual trip, only six bowlers shared the green with the major triples players.
After leading 6-0, the team of Joe Crowley, Rob Irving and John Carr kept their lead to defeat Les Kent, Gary McPhee and Ray Jones 20-14.
Players are reminded that club uniform should be worn for Saturday bowls.
