Here is the latest news from the Bowlie.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
Tom Casey played Bruce Orr in a Major Singles Quarter Final on Sunday. Bruce started well and got out to a 10-2 lead. Tom hit back and drew level at 16 all. During the next ten ends the lead changed a number of times culminating in Bruce holding a narrow 27-25 lead. Tom then won the next three ends to win the match 31-27. Another very entertaining club singles match.
Minor and Major Singles and Pairs have reached the Semi Final stage.
In Minor Singles Mike Valentine will play Peter McPhee with the winner to play Steve Ryan in the Final.
In Major Singles Michael Went will play Brett Frame and the other match sees Tom Casey up against Col Hayward.
In Minor Pairs Craig Henry and John O’Malley are up against Terry Hetherington and George Boatswain with the winners to play Mick Craft and Greg Fisher in the Final.
Major Pairs Semi Finals are Arthur Corbett and Col Hayward versus Graham Barby and John Davies. The other Semi Final sees Bruce Orr and Steve Ryan up against Col Mudie and John O’Malley.
The draw for both the Minor and Major Triples are on the board so teams can now arrange their first round matches.
PENNANTS
Grade 6 travelled to Condobolin on Sunday and suffered a 6-0 defeat. Overall shots were 76-44.
Norm Keane, Steve Ryan, George Boatswain and Terry Hetherington were defeated 25-13.
Bernie Mitchell, Max Tomkins, Noel Nicholson and Ron Hornery lost 29-10.
John Dunn, Wally Austin, Mike Valentine and Kevin Hynds, after being down 10-2, fought back to gain the lead 21-19 after 20 ends. Aided by a favourable wick off a wide bowl, the Condobolin skips last bowl disturbed the head and picked up three shots for Condobolin to defeat the gallant Parkes team 22-21.
Their next match will be against Peak Hill at Peak Hill on 25th May.
SOCIAL
Tuesday, 29th April, saw 10 bowlers play in the Twilight Jackpot Bowls. One game of Pairs and one Triples were played.
In the Triples game Garry Phillips, Don Littlewood and John Watson, after leading 9-0, went on to defeat Tom Furey, Geoff Leonard and Bob Freeman 17-7.
Les Kent and Steve Clegg had a hard fought 18-14 win over Mike Phillips and Mick Horan. The jackpot was not won.
Tuesday 29th was the last Tuesday night game. From Tuesday 6th May it will be an afternoon event with names in by 12:30pm for a 1:00pm start.
25 bowlers played five games of Pairs and one game of Triples on Thursday afternoon.
In the Triples game Les Kent, leading for both teams, teamed with Col Woods and Kevin Hynds to record a narrow 19-17 win over himself, Tom Cole and John Ward.
Bob Freeman and Wally Austin scored seven shots on the last two ends to defeat Ian Mill and Ron Hornery 21-14.
Norm Keane and Warren Bevan played Gordon Dickson and John Corcoran. Norm and Warren held the advantage for most of the match and led 22-17 after 18 ends. Gordon and John scored six shots on the next two ends to grab the lead 23-22. The last end saw Norm and Warren score two shots and claim a narrow victory 24-23.
After trailing most of the match, and down 10-16 after 17 ends, John Dunn and John Hodge won the last four ends to snatch a 16 all draw with Greig Ball and Terry Hetherington. The two John’s won the ends 13-8.
Mike Valentine and Graham Barby played Max Tomkins and Tom Hamilton (Forster). Max and Tom led 13-6 after 12 ends. Mike and Graham then won the next four ends to lead 19-13 and held on for a hard fought 23-19 win.
Ray Jones and Phil Collins (Laurieton) dominated the second half of their match and recorded a 26-14 win against Noel Nicholson and John O’Malley.
It was good to see Tom and Phil call in for a game and renew acquaintances.
The major prize winners were Ray Jones and Phil Collins and the minor winners were Mike Valentine and Graham Barby.
Saturday social bowls were washed out.
SUNDAY MORNING JACKPOT
The weather prevented any bowls on Sunday.
The jackpot remains at $1000.
Come along on Sunday morning for a game of bowls, a sausage sandwich, and a chance to win the jackpot. Names in by 9:30am for a 10:00am start.
CLASSIC PAIRS CARNIVAL
This event is being held on 14th and 15th May. Nominations are still open and further teams are invited to nominate.
RUGBY LEAGUE DAY
This event is being held as a fund raiser for the Parkes Spacemen on Saturday 17th May.Cost is $15 per player which includes bowls and a BBQ tea.
Nominations of teams of three or individual nominations need to be in by 12th May. Nominations can be made by contacting the club on 68621446 or Mark Dwyer on 0404033395.
