Here's the latest from the Bowlie.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.
On Saturday, February 18, one game of Major Singles was played and two games of Major Pairs.
The Singles match between Rob Irving and Les was a marathon, with both players having chances to win the match but neither prepared to give in at any stage. The scoring was very even in the early stages and after twelve ends Rob lead narrowly, 10-8. Seven of the next eight ends went to Rob and he had opened up the lead to 22-9 at the start of the twenty-first end. Les gradually got back into the match but it wasn’t until the thirty-first end that he drew level with Rob at 24 all. From there on it was “neck and neck” and after 38 ends scores were again level at 29 all. Rob won the next end by one shot and on the fortieth end only needed one shot to win the match but that end went to Les and the scores were locked at 30 all. Both players held shot on the forty-first end but finally it was Les who won the end and advanced to the next round, winning 31-30.
The Pairs matches weren’t as close but some great bowls were played. Warren Bevan and Dean Searl had a win against John Ward and John Hodge, 23-14, and in the other match, Mark Dwyer and Wilbur Harris proved too strong for Wally Grant and Steve Mills, winning 24-13.
On Sunday, in a Major Pairs match Steve Turner and Paul Henry had a win over Peter and Gary McPhee 32-18.
Social Bowls.

Twenty bowlers turned out, in what were the best conditions for a while, to play five games of Pairs.
Col Hayward and Col Woods had the better of the early ends and lead Col Mudie and John Dunn 10-3 after seven ends. The next seven ends were shared and the two Cols lead 14 -7 going into the fifteenth end. Col and John then won six of the last seven ends to claim victory 23 -15.
The team of Rob Irving and Guy Ellery lead from the start against Ray Jones and Mick Craft and with two ends to play had a lead of 19-12. Ray and Mick fought hard over the last two ends but could only manage five shots, going down to Rob and Guy, 19 -17.
