Pennants Over For Another Year
Published by The Driving Lead in Bowls Notes • 6/17/2013 4:18:27 PM
G'Day and welcome to this weeks news from the Bowlie.
PENNANTS.
The Ones played their last game of the series against Nyngan, even though we got up 5/1, it didn't make any difference, as both teams were out of the running, this ends the pennant season for the club and unfortunately no team made the playoffs so we now regroup and plan for next year.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Five games of Club Triples were played over the weekend, in the first Minor Triples game, the team of Ron Murray George Boatswain and Terry Hetherington were too good for Tony Byrne (sub) Greg Townsend and Kevin Hynds, winning 27/16 and in the other game Steve Mills Bernie Mitchell and Mike Parkes had a close win over Craig Henry Guy Bennett and Wilbur Harris 23/19.
In the Major Triples, Greig Ball Tom Casey and Col Hayward had a good win over Paul Henry Eddie McPhee(Sub) and Gary Went 29/18. Glen Pepper Col Mudie and Arthur Corbett also had a good win over Wilbur Harris Dean Searl and Warren Bevan, 25/16 and in the final game, an extra end had to be played to decide the winner, Noel Nicholson Ted Wright(sub) and John Hodge had a nail biter over Bruce Orr(sub) Mick Craft and Guy Bennett, getting up 25/23 after the score was tied at 23/23 on the 25th end. Both grades of Triples are going along smoothly, so get your games over while the weather is good.
SUNDAY JACKPOT BOWLS.
10 players fronted to try for the jackpot on Sunday, but it did not go off, so $780 this week, with the Pennants now over, more players could make this event a pleasant morning outing.
SOCIAL BOWLS.
Thursday saw a small group on the green, due to the showery weather but we did come up with a winner, John Hodge Ted Wright and Noel Nicholson.
Saturday saw a good rollup of 40 players on a sunny afternoon, the winners on the day being Liz Byrne and Dave Johnson, runners up Peter McPhee and Steve Turner.
A couple of results from the games, in a mixed pairs game, Liz Byrne and Dave Johnson had a good win over Rhona Went and Wally Grant 22/14, Peter McPhee and Steve Turner had a very good game over Chris Dunn and Max Tomkins, winning 19/18.
GENERAL NEWS.
After many years the grand event of the O.B.E. is making a comeback. This Saturday after bowls, Don Littlewood is being Knighted with the Over Bloody Eighty title. I personally have not seen this event being staged, but from the stories from people who have, it is an event not to miss.EVERYONE is invited to attend the Club at 5pm, to see the event in all its splendor.
As most of you know, at the last A.G.M. of theParkes Bowling & Sports Club, a motion was moved for the Men's Club to have its own A.G.M. so a date has been set for Monday Night, 5th August.
A board will be set up in the Bar, calling for nominations for all positions. This is your chance to make a POSITIVE contribution to the Men's Bowling Club. Any one who would like to move a notice of motion, please put it in writing and hand to Ron Murray before the 5th July. (There is one in already), so please keep this date in mind and we hope for a big turnout as this is the first time we are standing alone. We hope for everyone to make it a success.
With bowls, everything is going along splendidly. Please check the notice board to check events and the dates.
BOWLS STARTERS.
Tomorrow, Thursday 20/6 John Ward and John Carr, Saturday 22/6 Geoff Freeman and Greig Ball, and next Thursday 27/6, Bruce Orr and Graham Barby.
Well, that's it for this week, see you all at the Bowlie.
