RAIN RAIN GO AWAY, and it did, what a beautiful weekend, and the greens were humming with activity,
BUSINESS HOUSE BOWLS.
Wednesday and Thursday were both full, with the players making up for last weeks washout, although Wednesday saw the players putting on their jumpers and beanies because of the cool night.Results on the night saw Wednesday winners being Mamre beating The Headless Chooks, whilst Thursday saw Revamped leading home Elle.
SUNDAY MORNING.
12 players fronted for the chance of winning $1000, but it didn't go off, so $1000 this Sunday, and the margin going down to 9, surely it cannot be long before it goes off.
SOCIAL BOWLS.
Thursday say 28 players on the greens, with the winners being Bill Skinner and Norm Keane, heading home Dave Buggie and Noel Nicholson, while on Saturday, 46 bowlers took to the greens, and the winners here being Don Littlewood and Corky Corcoran, beating Joe Crowley and Col Mudie, I must make mention of this game, Joe and Col were dead ducks, behind 20/3 on the 13th end, then the Turbo kicked in, and they went on to win 22/21, Col and Joe, you are Legends. Another come from behind game to force a draw, saw Merv Hennock and Wally Austin score seven over the last two ends to draw 19/19 with Max Tomkins and Ray Jones.
CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES.
Both the Major and Minor Pairs first rounds were completed over the weekend, some scores from the Majors first, John Hodge and Robert Tinker had a good win over Ted Wright and Ken Walsh 32/20, Wilbur Harris and Mark Dwyer had a big win over Joe Crowley and Alan Affleck 32/9, and Noel Nicholson and Robert Corbett had a heart stopping extra end win over the young guns, Craig Cusack and Mick Went 18/17.Also in an extra end win, Warren Bevan and Keith MacRae fell over the line against Mick Craft and Kevin Hynds 21/20.
In the Minor Pairs,Gary Mcphee and Kevin Hynds had a good win over Laurie Westcott and G. Pepper30/11, Ryan McLuckie and Terry Hetherington had a good win over Dave Johnson and Craig Henry 28/19, Ron Murray and George Boatswain had a close call against Tom Hamilton and Craig Cusack 22/18, Bruce Deland and John O'Malley had a good win over Ben Townsend (sub) and Wally Grant 31/10, and finally Mick Craft and Greg Fisher had a comfortable win over Bernie Mitchell and Mike Parkes 25/11, whilst in a second round match , Father and Son team of Johnno and Wally Austin were too good for Peter McPhee and Steve Ryan 25/17.
GENERAL NEWS.
The No Two Pennant team travel over to Dubbo City for their first round match, we wish them all the best for the game.
The second round of both the Major and Minor Pairs will be played this weekend, hope the weather stays fine, at the moment it looks good.
On the 24/3, the first round of the Major Singles takes place, whilst the first round of the Minor Singles is scheduled to be played on the 31/3, remember all these games can be played any time leading up to the set dates, so get in whilst the weather is fine.
On the 1st April pennant practice will take place, Parkes No 5 will play Forbes No5, while the Parkes sixes and sevens will play each other.
Also remember, on Easter Saturday, the 7th April, the club will be running a Mini Carnival, starting at 10am, this is for teams of 4, comprising either Men, Ladies or Mixed, so get your team together and put it in the blue book at the bar.
