Published by The Driving Lead in Bowls Notes • 10/5/2012 5:20:31 PM
G'Day, and welcome to this weeks news from the Bowlie.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.
In a cliffhanger of a game in the Major Fours Semi Final the team of Noel Nicholson, John Ward, Robert Corbett and Arthur Corbett beat Ted Wright, Geoff Freeman, Graham Barby and Col Mudie 21/20. This was anyone's game with the score level at 20/20 on the 20th end. Arthur scored a single on the 21st end to win, so now Team Corbett is into the final & will play team Hayward. Best of luck to both teams.
SOCIAL BOWLS.
On Thursday 26 bowlers met to play bowls. The winners on the day being the fours combo of Noel Nicholson, John Ward, Robert Corbett and Arthur Corbett. The runners up a triples team of S Hodges, Mick Valentine and Gary McPhee.
Saturday saw a small field of 12 bowlers take to the green. As there was no information sheet filled out, I don't know who took home the Bacon.
SUNDAY JACKPOT BOWLS.
Only 4 players competed in the Sunday Morning game. The jackpot did not go off so $440 next week.
A reminder from this weekend, every Thursday and Saturday until the end of the year we will be playing in Mufti. This is as a request from the Chairman of the Board in the hope new bowlers will take up bowls, without the cost of having to buy Club Uniforms. This is aimed at the Twilight Bowlers in the hope they would like to try bowls in the afternoons. We can only wait and see.
GENERAL NEWS.
The Northparkes Mines Classic Triples is on over the weekend of 13/14 October. Get your teams together and enter them in the Blue Book, plus teams and money in the envelope in the box at the bar.
The Handicap Pairs are now open. Check the players handicap on the sheet in the bar,( remember the minimum handicap is 10) make up your team and put the names with money in the envelope and into the box at the bar. Also write your team on the sheet on the board, this will let people who are looking for players, know who is available.
The first round of the Pairs will be played 1.30pm on Saturday 20/10 and the second round on Sunday Morning at 9.30am. We hope to push the Pairs event through quickly as we have many more events coming up in the next couple of Months.
CLUB CHALLENGE.
This weekend both the Club teams will be in action. The Silver Team will be hosting Dubbo City on Saturday Afternoon, (note the change of dates) and there is a possibility there will be a double header on the weekend, so check the board for team selections.
The Blue team will make the trip to Millthorpe to play their first game. This will be a totally unknown game as Millthorpe is in Zone 5, so we have no knowledge of their form.
Well that's it for this week, see you all at the Bowlie.
