Here's the latest from the Bowlie.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.
On Thursday, February 23, one game of Major Singles was played. Dave Johnson played well early in the match and after ten ends had a lead of six shots over John Hodge. During the next ten ends John gradually got back into the match and after twenty ends Dave’s lead was 17-15. Dave again extended his lead and after twenty-nine ends the score was 27-19. The next five ends were won by John and the scores were then level at 27 all, but Dave came back and scored two shots on each of the next two ends to win the match 31-27.
On Saturday, February 25 three games of Major Singles were played.
Dave Johnson bowed out of the competition when he was convincingly defeated by Steve Turner.
Warren Bevan had a win over Dean Searl and Col Mudie also advanced to the next round with a win against Steve “Nimo” Mills.
On Sunday, February 26 in a Major Pairs match Bruce Orr and Steve Ryan had a hard fought win against Col Mudie and Ron Hornery. With one end to play, Col and Ron had a one shot lead but on the final end Bruce and Steve played some great bowls to score three shots and win the match by two shots.
PENNANTS
The Pennant Season gets under way next Sunday, March 5.
Our Grade 2 team is playing at home against Baradine and in coming weeks will meet West Dubbo and Dubbo City.
Grade 5 will be away to Canowindra in the first round and will also meet Caragabal and Parkes Railway/Diggers.
The 7’s are at home to Parkes Railway/Diggers and their other opponents are Peak Hill and Condobolin.

Thursday, February 23.
Fifteen bowlers turned out to play three games of Pairs and the other three bowlers tried out a new format of the game which has been called “Scroungers”.
Scroungers is played by groups of three or four, with each player having four bowls, but each player scores individually, with four points awarded to the shot nearest the jack and then 3,2 or 1 points for the next three closest bowls.
After a titanic struggle over forty ends Col Hayward emerged the victor with 103 points from Keith MacRae with 87 points and Col Mudie (who retired after twenty-six ends with 80 points). Time will tell whether this form of Bowls catches on or not.
In a Pairs matches, Ray Jones and Greg Huggins outlasted Rob Irving and Bob Freeman.
Les Kent and George Bradley were beaten by Ron Fisher and Gordon Dickson and, in the other match, Graham Barby and John Dunn had a convincing win over Graham Dixon and Ron Hornery.
The Winners Prizes for the day went to Graham Barby and John Dunn.
Saturday, February 25.
It is a while since I have seen two greens in use for a normal club day of bowls but today twenty-eight players joined the Club Championship players to play four games of Triples and one of Pairs.
George Boatswain and John Watson had the best of the early ends and it wasn’t until the thirteenth end that Bruce Orr and Bill Skinner took the lead, 13-12. The next two ends went to George and John but at the start of the eighteenth end the scores were level 17 all. George and John regained the lead, winning the next end by a shot but Bruce and Bill scored two shots on each of the last three ends to claim the match 23-18.
Results of the Triples matches were:
Mark Dwyer, Ron Fisher and Bob Freeman proved too good for Col Hayward, Les Kent and George Bradley, winning 23-17.
Steve Ryan, Col Woods and Joe Crowley -19 defeated Brett Frame, Rhona Went and Gordon Dickson – 12.
The three “Johns” – Ward, Carr and Dunn had a win over Keith MacRae, Arthur Corbett and Rob Irving, 23-18.
In the final match, Gary McPhee, Ray Jones and Greg Huggins had a convincing win against John Hodge, Ron Hornery and Gladrin Sun.
The Winners prize went to Gary McPhee, Ray Jones and Greg Huggins while the Runners-up were Warren Bevan and Wilbur Harris, who was Marker for the Major Singles Championship match.
1300 Bugman Barefoot Bowls.
Sixteen teams turned out to play some very close games.
We Wreck ‘em ‘N’ We Fix ‘em continued on their winning way beating Purple People, 12-10.
Rebelle lead all the way for a narrow win against The Bushies, 10-8.
Pink were behind 8-9 before scoring five shots on one end and hanging on to beat Bowls for Beers, 13-10.
Elvii were down 7-6 but scored five shots on the last two ends to score a win against Loopy Loppers 1, 11-7.
Casey Surveying proved too strong for The Royal winning 10-8.
Central West Glass had a good win over Happy Wanderers.
Three Amigos inflicted the first defeat on Parkes Shire Council winning 19-9.
Bowl Bros. had a convincing win against Hi Rollers. – 22-9.
As usual, a great night was had by all and many thanks to Phil Betts and Mark Dwyer for cooking the snacks we all enjoyed after the games.
Friday Night
The Badge Draw was not won last Friday and will be worth $1000 this week. The draw will take place after the meat and voucher raffle.
As usual good pub style meals will be available at very reasonable prices.
