Here's the latest from the bowlie.
Thursday night Twilight Bowls continues to draw big fields. Last Thursday 60 bowlers competed in ideal conditions.
Battlers continue as the only undefeated team following their close win over Casey Surveying 1. Battlers scored one shot on each of the last two ends to break the 9 all score line and claim victory 11-9.
Bushies were too strong for Saints, winning 17-10. After trailing 7-4, Rolling Stones finished strongly to defeat Super Bees 18-11. Other winners on the night were Bowl Bros, Two and a Half Fitters, We Wreck ‘M N We Fix ‘M, Three Amigos, Casey Surveying 2 and Back Trundle Road 2.
TUESDAY TWILIGHT
8 bowlers played two games of pairs.
Mick Blunt and John Ward led all the way in their 27-9 win over Bob Freeman and Dave Johnson.
Ted Wright and Nimo Mills scored two shots on the last end to defeat Les Kent and Tom Furey 14-12.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
Only one match was played this week. Graham Barby played Dean Searl in a major singles match.
After losing the first end, Graham won the next seven ends to lead 11-2. Dean then won four of the next five ends to narrow the margin to 12-8. Graham scored ten shots in winning the next five ends to extend his lead to 22-8. Dean again rallied to reduce the score to 22-13. The remainder of the match was dominated by Graham as he went on to win 31-14.
THURSDAY JACKPOT BOWLS
22 bowlers played four games of pairs and one triples.
Les Kent, Wally Austin and Gary McPhee dominated the early stages of their game to grab a 17-8 lead over Bob Freeman, Mike Valentine and Ron Hornery. Bob, Mike and Ron then won the next five ends to trail 17-15 after 19 ends. The last two ends saw one shot to each team for Les, Wally and Gary to win 18-16.
Ron Fisher, playing excellent lead bowls, teamed with the ever consistent Col Hayward to give Bernie Mitchell and Geoff Freeman a bowling lesson. The final score was a 37-7 win to Ron and Col.
John Keogh and Jeff Matters only lost six ends in their 26-9 win over John Ward and Col Mudie.
Rob Irving and John Corcoran also only lost six ends as they completely dominated their game against Joe Crowley and Arthur Corbett. Their winning score was 33-10.
Graham Dixon and Keith MacRae played Ray Jones and Kevin Hynds. Graham and Keith led 9-3 after nine ends and then Ray and Kevin won the next five ends to grab a 14-9 lead. Graham and Keith hit back and won the next six ends to regain the lead and go on to win 19-15.
The major prize winners were the major singles match winner Graham Barby and John Hodge (marker) and the minor winners were Graham Dixon and Keith MacRae. The jackpot was not won and will be $120 tomorrow.
RUGBY LEAGUE DAY
Approximately 50 Spacemen players and supporters enjoyed the company of our club bowlers in a fun bowls afternoon last Saturday. Some future bowlers were unearthed while others showed that they are better suited to rugby league. One Spaceman to stand out as a bowler was the captain-coach Dennis Moran. After the bowls everyone enjoyed a BBQ followed by the presentation to prize winners.
PARKES CELLARS DAY
Saturday, March 21 will see the staging of the ever popular Parkes Cellars Day. The day will be a mixed mufti bowls afternoon with plenty of prizes on offer. Nomination of teams of three can be put in the blue book. Single name nominations are also being accepted and need to be in by 1:00pm. The cost is $15 per team which includes a BBQ dinner. Come along and join in this fun day.
PENNANTS
Grade 6 and 7 pennants start date has once again been changed and will now commence next Sunday, March 15.
Grade 6 play Condobolin at Condobolin while Grade 7 play Condobolin at Parkes Bowling and Sports Club.
The teams are:
Grade 6
Team 1 – Max Tomkins, Craig Henry, Gary McPhee and Kevin Hynds
Team 2 – Nimo Mills, Graham Dixon, Bruce Orr and Ron Hornery
Team 3 – Noel Nicholson, John Dunn, Ted Wright and Keith MacRae
Grade 7
Team 1 – Alan Affleck, Bill Skinner, Rob Irving and Greg Townsend
Team 2 – Tony Byrne, Gordon Dickson, Bernie Mitchell and Steve Turner
Team 3 – Ron Murray, Col Woods, Stuart Kelly and George Boatswain

Players are reminded of the change in the bowls rules which now states that the second is responsible for the score card in a game of fours.
SUNDAY MORNING JACKPOT
16 bowlers played four games of pairs.
Three very close games highlighted the morning.
After trailing 12-6, Malcolm Watt and Rob Irving won the last four ends to grab a 13-12 win over Bob Freeman and Keith Hutchison.
Mick Blunt and Mal Porter scored one shot on the last end to win 9-8 in a low scoring game against Don Littlewood and Ian Simpson.
After leading 14-6, Steve Ryan and Craig Henry survived a spirited fight back from Gladrin Sun and Chris Dunn. Steve and Craig hung on to win 18-16.
John Harcus and Ted Wright led all the way in their 18-9 win over Steve Turner and John Dunn.
Prize winners were Chris Dunn, Bob Freeman, Gladrin Sun, Ted Wright and Ian Simpson.
The jackpot was not won and remains at $1000. The jackpot number range has been reduced to 13 so come along on Sunday morning for a game of bowls, a sausage sandwich, and a chance to win the jackpot. Names in by 9:30am for a 10:00am start.
