PRESENTATION DAY
Michael Went was named Parkes Bowling & Sports Club Men’s Bowler of the Year at the annual presentation held last Saturday. Michael had a very successful year. He won the club Major Singles and Major Fours. He also won the District Triples and was runner up in District Singles. He was the District Champion of Champions Singles winner. He was the Zone Triples and Champion of Champions Singles runner up and he also represented Zone 4 in the Inter Zone State Titles.
Rob Irving was the recipient of the Michelle and Eddie McPhee Award. Rob is a relatively new bowler and had an outstanding year on the green and has also given great support to the club since becoming a member.
He was a member of the 2015 winning teams in Minor Fours, Handicap Pairs and Mixed Fours. He was also a member of the Grade 7 Pennant team which won the District title and finished runner up in the Zone 4 title. Rob was instrumental in arranging the Parkes High School boys bowls afternoons. These boys will be vying for selection in the Parkes High School bowls team in 2016.
The club would like to give a big thank you to all the business houses and members who sponsored the annual awards. Approximately 40 individual members received an award.
TWILIGHT BOWLS
A big field of 60 bowlers enjoyed a great night of bowls.
Rok-FM scored four shots on the last end to defeat Three Amigos 11-10.
Battlers scored four shots on the last two ends to record a come from behind 10-8 win over Loopy Loppers 3.
Other winning teams were We Wreck ‘M ‘N’ We Fix ‘M, Purple People, Casey Surveying, Bushies, Central West Glass, Butcher Boys, Loopy Loppers 2 and Super Bees.
Major prize winners on the night were Bushies with the lucky losers prize going to Loopy Loppers 1.
This Thursday, December 10 will be the last competitive round before the Christmas break and it will feature rissole sandwiches after the bowls. Thursday, December 17 will be a free night for all interested bowlers.
SOCIAL BOWLS
20 bowlers played five games of Pairs on Thursday afternoon.
Joe Crowley and Col Mudie had a good 27-17 win over Bob Freeman and John Corcoran.
Les Kent and Col Hayward had a dream start when they scored a maximum eight shots on the very first end against Max Tomkins and Baldy Frame. Les and Col continued to dominate the game and went on to record a 28-12 win.
After trailing 15-12 Rob Irving and John Hodge combined well to win the last seven ends to defeat Ray Jones and John Ward 26-15.
In a low scoring game John Keogh and Mike Valentine had a hard fought 16-13 win over Noel Nicholson and John Dunn.
Man of the match, John Watson, teamed with Keith MacRae to score a 21-15 win over Gordon Dickson and Geoff Freeman.
Major prize winners were Joe Crowley and Col Mudie with the minor prize winners being John Watson and Keith MacRae.
Saturday saw 30 social bowlers play Pairs and Triples games prior to the club presentation evening.
After trailing 11-12 Rob Irving and Michael Went stormed home, winning four of the last five ends to defeat Tom Furey and Baldy Frame 25-15.
Greg Townsend and Wilbur Harris scored 18 shots in winning the last eight ends to record a come from behind 24-19 win over Bill Skinner and Ray Jones.
Paul Henry and John Ward held a 16-4 lead over Steve Ryan and Col Mudie after 12 ends before going on to record a 22-13 win.
Wally Grant, Joe Crowley and Pat Cooney led all the way in their 25-20 win over Ron Fisher, Col Woods and John Corcoran.
With the scored locked 17 all after 20 ends Bob Freeman, Chris Dunn and Col Hayward scored one shot on the last end to defeat Gordon Dickson, John Hodge and Flip Fliedner 18-17.
Cherie Frame and Warren Bevan won the last four ends in recording a 21-15 win over Guy Ellery and Arthur Corbett.
Major prize winners were Rob Irving and Michael Went with the minor prize winners being Bob Freeman, Chris Dunn and Col Hayward. This weeks Stefan Mikita sponsored haircut voucher was won by Joe Crowley.
4 bowlers played one game of Pairs on Sunday morning.
After trailing 19-7 George Bradley and Guy Ellery won the last five ends to grab a 21-19 win over Eileen Bradley and Tom Furey. Prize winner was Eileen Bradley.
Next Sunday, December 13 the club is changing the Sunday social bowls to a twilight time slot with names to be in by 5:30pm for a 6pm start. This is being trialled for the next few months with the new playing time being more appropriate during the daylight saving period. Come along next Sunday afternoon for a game of bowls followed by the usual sausage sandwich.
CHRISTMAS PARTY
A Christmas party bowls afternoon is being held on Saturday, December 19. The afternoon is open to all bowlers. Women, men, children, social and Business House bowlers are all welcome. Lots of prizes are on offer. Dress is mufti with names in by 1pm for a 1:30pm start.
WORKING BEE
A working bee is being held on Sunday, December 20, to renovate the Tiff Dwarf No. 2 green. A big roll up will make light work of the scheduled early morning job.
AUSTRALIA DAY MINI CARNIVAL
Make a note in your diary for this annual event which is being held on Tuesday, January 26. The event is sponsored by Littlewood Smash Repairs and Parkes Auto Wreckers and features $1000 prize money. The cost is $20 per player which includes a BBQ lunch. Nominations of teams of four are now being taken. Your team can be all men, all women or mixed and the dress is mufti.
BRAGGERS CUP
Honours were shared with Diggers Railway Bowling Club last Friday night. Each club scored three wins with the other game ending in a draw.
Greg Townsend and Michael Went won 37-11 over Tony Latter and Kevin Hynds.
Karen Casey and Rosemary Mitchell lost 19-18 to Kim Evans and Pauline Curry.
Craig Henry and Flip Fliedner lost 27-8 to Graham Cole and Lee Hetherington.
Elaine Miller and Pat Cooney won 26-13 over Lorraine Baker and Bev Ellis.
Steve Turner and Tom Casey lost 19-14 to Clive Stibbard and Col Hornery.
Chris Dunn and Baldy Frame won 20-8 over Doug Miller and Luke Ramsay.
Dave Johnson and Tom Furey drew 16-16 with Mike Parkes and Terry Hetherington.

The club’s Christmas Hamper raffle valued at over $800 will be drawn on Friday, December 18. Tickets are available from the friendly bar staff at a cost of $2 each or purchase 3 tickets for $5.
This Friday come along and enjoy a good old fashioned pub style meal. Raffles will also be on where patrons have the chance to win meat trays, hams, shopping vouchers and cash prizes. So come along and join in the fun. Members badge draw this week is $1000.
