Welcome to 2014. May it be a very rewarding year for all, both on and off the green.
Here is the latest news from the Bowlie.
SUNDAY MORNING JACKPOT
On Sunday 22th December, 14 bowlers turned out and played two games of Pairs and one Triples . Guy Ellery and Greg Townsend had a good 23-8 win against Dillon Johnson and Dave Johnson.Chris Dunn and Peter Fisher played Arthur Corbett and Greg Fisher. This match was won on the last end with Arthur and Greg scoring two shots to win 16-14.Bob Freeman, Tom Cole and Gary McPhee scored one shot on the last end to defeat Barrie Freeman, Don Littlewood and Kevin Hynds 13-12.
Voucher winners were Barrie Freeman, Greg Townsend, Chris Dunn, Greg Fisher and Kevin Hynds.
Sunday 29th December saw 14 bowlers play one game of Triples and two games of Pairs.Don Littlewood, Mick Blunt and Dave Johnson led well early and held on to defeat Keith Hutchison, Brian Harrison and Greg Townsend 15-12. My spy, the opposition, told me Dave wicked his way to victory.
Rob Irving and Kevin Hynds showed no mercy in recording a big 26-6 win over Kim Warren and Gary McPhee.Chris Dunn and Craig Henry defeated Peter ten Cate and Ted Wright 18-12.Voucher winners were Chris Dunn, Mick Blunt, Ted Wright, Rob Irving and Kevin Hynds.
The jackpot was not won and now stands at $620. Come along on Sunday morning for a game of bowls, a sausage sandwich, and a chance to win the jackpot. Names in by 9:30am for a 10:00am start.

Thursday 19th December saw 24 bowlers play two games of Triples and three games of Pairs. John Keogh and Greig Ball defeated Mike Valentine and John Carr 18-15.Noel Nicholson and Kevin Hynds defeated Joe Crowley and Keith MacRae 21-16.
Graham Barby and John Hodge defeated Gordon Dickson and Steve Ryan 27-12.
Bernie Mitchell, Wally Austin and John Ward defeated Nev Whitfield, John Dunn and Ron Hornery 17-16.Peter McPhee, Gary McPhee and Josh Mills finished strongly to defeat Bob Freeman, Eddie McPhee and John Corcoran 30-16
10 lucky bowlers won Christmas hams and cakes.
On Saturday 21st December, 21 bowlers played one game of Triples, with Norm Keane playing for both teams, and four games of pairs.
In the triples match Mike Valentine, Norm Keane and John O’Malley had a 22 all draw with Steve Mills, Norm Keane and John Corcoran. The Corcoran team won the ends 14-8.Peter McPhee and John Carr had an all the way win over Bob Freeman and Kevin Hynds, winning 20-16.Ron Fisher and Joe Crowley defeated Tom Cole and Bruce Orr 23-18.Greig Ball and Josh Mills defeated Max Tomkins and Gary McPhee 18-12.
John Dunn and Eddie McPhee defeated Alan Affleck and Keith MacRae 22-12.
A draw out of the hat saw ten lucky bowlers win Christmas hams.
24 bowlers played four games of Turn-Around Triples on Thursday 26th December. This proved to be very popular with all who played.Rob Irving, John Ward and Pat Cooney played Bob Freeman, Ray Jones and John Corcoran. After leading 11-0 after four ends, Rob, John and Pat went on to win 31-15.In the battle of the Fisher’s, John Dunn teamed with Tony and Peter Fisher to defeat Wally Grant, Ron Fisher and Greg Fisher 23-21. The match was decided on the last end after the scores were locked 21 all after 20 ends.Chris Dunn, John Hodge and Graham Fliedner held on to defeat Steve Turner, Gary McPhee and Col Hayward 19-16.In the last match Bruce Orr, Dave Johnson and Arthur Corbett scored two shots on the last end to defeat Mike Valentine, Steve Ryan and Geoff Freeman 20-18.The major winners were Bruce Orr, Dave Johnson and Arthur Corbett. Minor winners were Chris Dunn, John Hodge and Graham Fliedner. The lucky loser’s prize went to Steve Turner, Gary McPhee and Col Hayward.
Saturday 28th December saw 30 bowlers play one game of Triples and six games of Pairs.Steve Mills, Wally Austin and Mike Parkes scored a hard fought 25-21 win over Craig Henry, Dave Johnson and Gary McPhee.
Ron Fisher and Tom Casey finished strongly to defeat Allan Wright and John Carr 27-17.After leading 20-4 after 12 ends, Col Woods and John Ward held on to defeat Noel Nicholson and Warwick Parker 24-18.Matt Parker and Col Hayward completely dominated the second half of the match against John Dunn and John Corcoran, running out comfortable winners 26-14.Ray Jones and Kevin Hynds had a narrow 23-21 victory over Joe Crowley and Greig Ball.Bob Freeman and John O’Malley played Bernie Mitchell and Peter Fisher (Mackay Northern Beaches). The scores were locked together 18-18 after 18 ends. Bob and John then scored six shots on the next end and went on to win 26-19.In the last match Norm Keane and Mike Valentine played Gordon Dickson and Bill Burkitt (Noosa). Gordon and Bill led 20-12 after 16 ends. Norm and Mike finished strongly and snatched victory on the very last end, winning 22-21.
Major winners were Ron Fisher and Tom Casey with the minor winner’s being Col Woods and John Ward.
It was good to see Peter Fisher and Josh Mills have a few games on their Xmas visit to Parkes. It was also good to see Eddie McPhee back in town and still enjoying his bowls.
TWILIGHT BOWLS
Will commence on Thursday 16th January with a free night.
UPCOMING BOWLS EVENTS
The annual East versus West day will be held on Saturday 4th January.
District Triples nominations have closed and will be held at Parkes Railway Diggers on 11-12 January and 18-19 January.
District Fours nominations close on 19th January. This event will be played at Peak Hill on 1-2 February.
Nominations for the club Major and Minor Singles and Pairs close on 12th January.
Australia Day mini carnival will be held on Monday 27th January with $1000 prize money. This is a mixed mufti event of teams of four. Cost is $15 per player, which includes a BBQ lunch. Nominations close on Friday 24th January.
GENERAL
The clubs Christmas raffle was won by Robert Corbett.
The club will have plenty of free entertainment on offer over the Elvis weekend with live performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights as well as Sunday afternoon.
