Classic Triples One Day Event

Here’s the latest from the Bowlie.
CLASSIC TRIPLES OPEN EVENT.
Entries are being taken at the club (phone 6862 1446) for a two bowls triples event to be held on Sunday, October 9 2016. Four games of fifteen ends will be played starting at 8.45 am.
Prize money (totalling $1500) will range from $480 for the winning team to $180 for the fourth placed team and will include three “mystery” prizes of $90 each.
The entry fee is $90 per team (which includes lunch and morning tea) and teams can be all male, all female or mixed.
Major sponsors of the day are, Forbes Central Butchery, Southern Cross Care and Parkes Top Town Traders.
All bowlers are welcome to enter and we look forward to seeing you on the day.

Thursday, September 1.
Twenty-Four players turned out to play six games of Pairs.
In the closest match of the day Col Hayward and Rob Irving got away to a good start and after sixteen ends lead John Hodge and Guy Ellery, 7-2. After eleven ends the scores were level, 9 all and, on the twelfth end John and Guy scored four shots to take the lead 13-9. Starting the sixteenth end, Col and Rob had regained the lead 14-13 and won four of the last six ends to win narrowly, 18-16.
In spite of losing more ends than they won, Geoff Freeman and Ted Wright got home 26-18 against Col Mudie and John Carr.
Other winning teams were Warren Bevan and Gladrin Sun, Steve Turner and Joe Crowley ,Graham Barby and Les Kent and John Dunn and Wally Grant.
Prize winners were Col Hayward and Rob Irving and the runners-up prize went to Warren Bevan and Gladrin Sun..
Saturday, September 3.
In spite of the recent heavy rain and cold winds, eight players turned up to play two games of pairs.
John Ward and Ron Hornery started well and after four ends lead Geoff Freeman and Rob Irving 5-0 and after ten ends the lead had blown out to nine shots, 11-2. Geoff and Rob then won seven of the last eleven ends but could not quite bridge the gap and John and Ron ran out winners, 21-19.
In the other match, Col Mudie and Ray Jones lead 10-0 after four ends but Tom Furey and Les Kent fought back and with three ends to play the score was level 15 all. Tom and Les won those three ends to claim victory 22-15.
UPCOMING BOWLS EVENTS.
Social bowls will continue on Thursday and Saturday.
A quick reminder to all members that all Saturday Social Bowls (as well as matches) will be played in Club Uniform and not Mufti as has been the case recently.
The Club Championships have reached the Finals stages.
In the Major Fours, the team of Brett Frame, Col Hayward, Paul Henry and Steve Turner will play the final against Michael Went, Tom Casey, Tom Furey and Matt Parker.
In the Minor Pairs, Guy Ellery and John Hodge are through to the final and will play the winner of the Semi-final when Rob Irving and Wally Grant play against Steve Turner and Wilbur Harris.
The Minor Singles event is still in the Quarter-final stages with Greg Townsend and Gary McPhee to meet in one semi-final and the other semi-finalists still to be decided.

General.
Friday Night come along and buy the winning tickets in the “Early Birds” meat tray raffle at about 6.15pm followed by the major raffle with prizes of meat trays, vouchers and cash which will be drawn at about 8 o’clock.
The Badge Draw was not won last week and this Friday will be worth $1100 and will be drawn after the raffles.
The new Bistro, MJ’S, is open for business, serving great meals at very reasonable prices.
