ZONE JUNIOR PAIRS WIN
The defending title holders, Matt Parker and Parkes Railway Diggers junior Doug Miller, have again won the Zone 4 Junior Pairs title played in Dubbo last week. In the final they defeated a team led by the current Australian Under 18 Champion, Jono Davis from Dubbo Railway. They will now go on to represent Zone 4 in the State Finals to be played at Warilla later in the year. This was a great effort by two quality Parkes junior bowlers.
Matt also performed well in the Junior Singles being eventually defeated by Jono Davis 31-21 in a high quality match.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
Three club championship matches were played this last week.
Two rain interrupted major pairs matches were played on Saturday.
John Hodge and Col Mudie played the father and son team of Garry and Michael Went. Garry and Michael had a dream start, winning the first seven ends to lead 10-0. John and Col fought back and narrowed the score to 9-10 after 11 ends when rain halted play. On resumption, Garry and Michael scored 13 shots in winning three of the next five ends to lead 23-11. John and Col won three of the last four ends but were unable to make up the deficit with Garry and Michael going on to win the match 25-15. Garry was unanimously named man of the match by all players and spectators.
The other pairs match saw Wilbur Harris and Mark Dwyer play Noel Nicholson and John Ward. Wilbur and Mark won 10 of the first 12 ends to grab a good 17-2 lead. Noel and John won five of the next seven ends but still trailed 9-21. Wilbur and Mark scored six shots on the last end played to record a 27-9 win.
One minor pairs match was played on Thursday. It saw Nimo Mills and Tom Furey up against John Dunn and Guy Bennett. Nimo and Tom got off to a good start, scoring seven shots on the first two ends and then extending their lead to 19-4 halfway through the match. At this stage it was obvious Guy was physically struggling to remain on the green. To their credit John and Guy played out the remainder of the match which was dominated by Nimo and Tom. The final score was 42-8.
