Members Pairs Tournament November 8th

Here is the latest news from the Bowlie.
SUPER SATURDAY SOCIAL BOWLS
A quality field of 24 bowlers played six games of pairs in the Bob and Geoff Freeman sponsored event. Numbers were down with a large number of bowlers away at various carnivals.
Ron Fisher and Ron Thomas (Shoalhaven Heads) only lost six ends in their big 31-12 win over Terry Hetherington and Phil Helies (Wyong).
After leading 12-3, Noel Nicholson and Gary McPhee held on to defeat Alan Affleck and Pat Cooney 19-14.
Ray Jones and Wally Grant led 20-8 after 14 ends and held on to defeat the fast finishing Rob Irving and Dave Johnson 22-19.
Chris and John Dunn only lost five ends in their 29-8 win over Col Woods and Wally Austin.
Bill Skinner and John Corcoran led 24-9 after 12 ends and went on to defeat Jim Jennings and John Ward 32-19.
Bob Freeman and Steve Ryan played Joe Crowley and Maree Grant in a very close game. Bob and Steve started best and led 14-7 after 13 ends. Joe and Maree fought back to grab the lead 18-16 after the penultimate end. Bob and Steve were able to score two shots on the last end to draw the game 18 all. Bob and Steve won on a count back, winning the ends 11-10.
Major winners were Bill Skinner and John Corcoran and the minor winners were Bob Freeman and Steve Ryan. Three additional prizes were competed for with the team of Ron Fisher and Ron Thomas winning the prize for most ends won. Rob Irving and Dave Johnson won the highest scoring end of a losing team and Joe Crowley and Maree Grant won the prize for the most ends won by a losing team.
TWILIGHT BOWLS
58 bowlers turned out last Thursday.
Saints, spearheaded by Jodie, continued their winning form by defeating Stitch and Bitch 14-8.
Rolling Stones had a narrow 9-8 win over Bushies. It was good to see Lawrie Westcott back on the green for Bushies.
In a friendly grudge match Mick Horan’s Central West Glass side won the last two ends to score a 13-11 win over Back Trundle Road 1.
Major winners were All Stars with the minor winners being Elle. The lucky losers prize was won by Back Trundle Road 2.
THURSDAY SOCIAL BOWLS
25 bowlers contested five games of pairs and one triples.
In the triples game Keith MacRae played lead for both teams. The team of Keith, John Watson and Geoff Freeman proved too strong for Keith, Les Kent and Greig Ball, Running out 38-9 winners.
Rob Irving and Phil Helies (Wyong) came from a 9-14 deficit to defeat Alan Affleck and Col Mudie 26-16.
Graham Barby and Wally Austin won the last four ends to record a come from behind 19-15 win over Jim Jennings and John Ward.
John Dunn and Ron Hornery played Col Woods and Graham Dixon. Col and Graham held a handy 14-8 lead after 13 ends. John and Ron finished strongly and won seven of the last ends to win the game 22-15.
Mick Blunt and John Hodge played Allan Wright and Steve Ryan. Mick and John had a great start and led 11-1 after seven ends. Allan and Steve fought back to level at 15 all after 15 ends. The scores were then level again at 18 all after 19 ends. Allan and Steve scored one shot on each of the last two ends to win a great game 20-18.
Ian Mill and man of the match, Kevin Hynds scored a good 26-15 win over Bob Freeman and John Corcoran.
The major winners were Graham Barby and Wally Austin and the minor winners were Allan Wright and Steve Ryan.
MEMBERS PAIRS TOURNAMENT
The club is holding a members pairs tournament on Saturday, November 8. Prize money of $550 will be shared by the top five performing teams. Check the notice board for the conditions of play and put your team on the nomination sheet.
MIXED PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIPS
Four first round matches were played last Wednesday.
Margaret Hawken and Graham Barby had a good 30-14 win over Rose and Bernie Mitchell.
After leading 22-2, Gwenda Carty and Col Hayward went on to defeat Elaine Miller and Dave Johnson 28-16.
Chris Dunn and Pat Cooney had a good 28-11 win over Valmai and Wes Westcott.
The last match saw Liz Byrne and Arthur Corbett win the last three ends to record a come from behind 20-18 win over Cherie Frame and John Hodge.
Major prize winners on the night were Gwenda Carty and Col Hayward and the minor winners were Margaret Hawken and Graham Barby.
Members are reminded that nominations for the Mixed Fours close on Sunday, November 9.
SUNDAY MORNING JACKPOT
10 bowlers played one game of pairs and one triples.
The pairs game saw Dave Buggie and Steve Turner completely dominate in their game against Chris Dunn and Dave Johnson. They only lost two ends in winning 23-2.
Bob Freeman, Stuart Kelly and John Dunn opened up a handy 12-6 lead and held on to defeat Mick Blunt, Rob Irving and Craig Henry 16-12.
Prize winners were Chris Dunn, Mick Blunt, Dave Johnson and Craig Henry.
The jackpot was not won and will be $720 next week. Come along on Sunday morning for a game of bowls, a sausage sandwich, and a chance to win the jackpot. Names in by 9:30am for a 10:00am start.
BRAGGERS CUP
The first round of the Braggers Cup was played last Friday with the Parkes Bowling and Sports Club having a 4-2 win over Railway Diggers. Col Hayward, Flip Fliedner, Michael Went and Pat Cooney won their matches. Baldy Frame and Maree Grant had narrow losses.
This Friday will see the return singles matches played at the Parkes Bowling and Sports Club commencing at 6pm.
CONDOBOLIN OPEN TRIPLES SUCCESS
Two Parkes teams competed and the team of Graham Barby, Col Hayward and Baldy Frame were the overall winners. They won all five matches to claim the top prize money.
The other Parkes team of John Hodge, Greig Ball and Col Mudie came fifth with four wins.

RULE OF THE WEEK
Improper delivery of the jack. If the jack is improperly delivered once by each player it shall be centred with the nearest point of the jack to the mat line being 2 metres from the front ditch. The mat should be placed by the first player to play.
