Here is the latest news from the Bowlie.
TWILIGHT BOWLS
Thursday night saw 58 bowlers on the greens.
The win by Rok-FM, two drawn games and two one shot margin games highlighted the final round of the competition. Rok-FM’s 16-12 win over Three Amigos made them the overall best performed team. Elle won the last two ends to snatch a 13all draw with High Rollers and Young Guns also won the last two ends to draw 16all with Bushies. Some other games saw Cracker Jacks come from behind to defeat Bowl Bros 16-15, We Wreck-Em We Fix-Em won the last end to score a 10-9 victory over Casey Surveying, Golden Girls had a narrow 9-7 win over The Noods and Back Trundle Road finally showed their true form with a 13-7 win over Throw Together.
The major prize winning team was Battlers. Turf & Surf the minor prize and Casey Surveying the lucky losers.
The presentation night will be held tomorrow, Thursday 20th March, were a number of special awards will be handed out. This will be a free night of bowls followed by the presentation.
PENNANTS
Round 2 of the Pennants was played on Sunday with the club being defeated in all Grades. In three of the four clashes the Parkes teams won the rinks 2-1 only to see the overall shots go to their opposition.
Grade 1 played West Dubbo at West Dubbo and were beaten 49-45 overall shots and a 4-2 loss. Results of the individual matches were:
Geoff Freeman, Warwick Parker, Michael Went and Graham Fliedner won a very tight match 15-14.
In another close match Dave Johnson, John Corcoran, Robert Corbett and Brett Frame came from behind to win 18-15.
Graham Barby, Tom Casey, John Davies and Col Hayward lost 20-12.
Grade 5 played Gilgandra at Gilgandra and were beaten 73-57 shots margin and a 4-2 loss. Results of individual matches were:
Craig Henry, Mick Craft, John Carr and Keith MacRae lost 36-8. Craig was the standout bowler in a losing side.
Greig Ball, Dave Buggie, Col Mudie and Arthur Corbett won 24-17.
Matt Parker, Greg Fisher, John O’Malley and Warren Bevan won 25-20.
Grade 6 played Condobolin at Parkes and were beaten 69-58 shots margin and a 4-2 loss. Results of individual matches were:
John Dunn, Wally Austin, Mike Valentine and Kevin Hynds won 22-21.
Tom Furey, George Boatswain, Noel Nicholson and John Ward won 19-16.
Norm Keane, Max Tomkins, Steve Ryan and Terry Hetherington lost 32-17.
Grade 7 played Forbes at Forbes and were beaten by 61-41 shot margin for a 5-1 loss. Results of individual matches were:
Ron Murray, Rob Irving, Wally Grant and Bruce Orr lost 20-15.
Tony Byrne, Bernie Mitchell, Keith Alexander and Greg Townsend lost 24-8.
Don Littlewood, Bill Skinner, Steve Mills and Ted Wright won 18-17.
Next Sunday Grade 1 plays Narromine at Parkes, Grade 5 plays Dubbo City at Parkes, Grade 6 has the bye and Grade 7 plays Railway Diggers at Railway Diggers.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
Five matches were played over the last week.
In Minor Singles, Mike Valentine defeated Steve Mills 31-21.
In Minor Pairs, Craig Henry and John O’Malley were too strong for Greig Ball and Gary McPhee, winning 24-15. Craig was clearly man of the match. Mick Craft and Greg Fisher had a comfortable 26-13 win over Sheldon Orr and Greg Townsend. In the last match Tony Byrne and Steve Mills won the last two ends to snatch a 19-18 victory over Tom Furey and Wilbur Harris
In a highly entertaining Major Pairs match Dave Johnson and Graham Fliedner played Paul Henry and Brett Frame. Dave and Graham held the advantage throughout the match and led 22-13 after 15 ends. Paul and Brett came back to only trail by five shots with three ends to play. On each of the last three ends Paul and Brett held multiple shots only to see Graham claim the end with his last bowl. Dave and Graham won the match 25-17.
PUBLIC INVITATION BOWLS DAY
The club is holding a special bowls day on Saturday 12th April. All community members are invited to come along and enjoy a social game of bowls. Whether you are a current bowler or have never played, we invite everyone to come along to this special day.
SOCIAL
Tuesday, 11th March, saw 16 bowlers play in the Twilight Jackpot Bowls. Four games of pairs were played. Les Kent and Pat Cooney had a narrow 18-15 win over Shannon Birmingham and Gary McPhee. Tom Furey and John Hodge were too strong for John Watson and Mark Dwyer, winning 18-9. Joan Simpson and Col Mudie had a big 19-8 win over Ron Murray and Liz Byrne and Bernie Mitchell and Greg Townsend finished strongly to defeat Bob Freeman and Steve Mills 21-11. The jackpot was not won and increased to $260. New bowlers are welcome with players needing to have their names in by 5:30pm for a 6:00pm start.
On Thursday 22 bowlers played four games of Pairs and one Triples.
In the Triples game Bob Freeman, Wally Austin and Greig Ball had a very narrow 19-18 win over Tom Cole, Keith Alexander and John Ward.
John Dunn and Ray Jones won six of the last eight ends to defeat Allan Wright and Terry Hetherington 23-15.
Bill Skinner and Ted Wright won six of the last seven ends against Ian Mill and Gary McPhee to win the game 24-13.
Noel Nicholson and Brett Frame had a 24all draw with John Keogh and John Hodge. This match saw the lead change eight times with Noel and Brett scoring four shots on the last end to snatch the draw. The two Johns won the ends 12-9.
In another very close match Nev Whitfield and John Carr scored three shots on the last end to draw their game against Rob Irving and Kevin Hynds 20all. Nev and John won the ends 12-9.
Major winners were Mike Valentine and Norm Keane (marker) and the minor winners were John Dunn and Ray Jones.
Saturday saw 12 bowlers play three games of Pairs.
John Dunn and Kevin Hynds led all the way in defeating Norm Keane and Ron Murray 25-17.
John Carr and Tom Casey had a narrow 25-22 win over Joe Crowley and Mike Valentine.
Bob Freeman and Ray Jones (man of the match) scored a very convincing 23-14 win over the highly fancied Keith MacRae and John Ward.
Major winners were Craig Henry and John O’Malley and the minor winners were Tony Byrne and Steve Mills.
SUNDAY MORNING JACKPOT
The Pennant season has reduced the number of Sunday morning bowlers.
Only six bowlers graced the greens and played a game of Triples.
The score was very close half way through the game before Bob Freeman, Shannon Birmingham and Guy Ellery won six of the last seven ends to defeat Keith Hutchison, Bill Wyatt and Mal Porter 20-9.
Voucher winners were Bill Wyatt, Keith Hutchison and Guy Ellery.
The jackpot was not won and now stands at $1000.
Come along on Sunday morning for a game of bowls, a sausage sandwich, and a chance to win the jackpot. Names in by 9:30am for a 10:00am start.
