Here’s the latest from the bowlie.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.
A very busy week on the Championship front this week as everyone tries to get the various competitions finalised before the end of the year.
Major Triples.
In the Major Triples final the team of Joe Davies, Keith MacRae and Bernie Mitchell had a great win over Graham “Flip” Fliedner, Geoff Freeman and Graham Barby. It was a very close match for the first thirteen ends (the score was 13 -10) before Joe’s team took control and won all of the remaining eight ends to claim victory 25 -10.
Minor Singles.
Congratulations to Matt Parker on a great win in the Minor Singles Final against Greg Townsend. Matt lead all the way and after thirteen ends had built up a lead of 19 – 5. By the twenty-fifth end Matt had scored 29 shots and only needed two shots to win the match but Greg scored ten shots on the next five ends before Matt scored three shots on the next end to win the match 32 – 25.
Mixed Pairs.
Two games were played resulting in convincing wins to Brett and Cherrie Frame over Graham Barby and Margaret Hawken, while Liz Byrne and Col Mudie defeated Col Hayward and Glenda Carty.
Mixed Fours.
On Sunday morning, in a first round match, Brett Frame, Rhona Went, Paul Henry and Cherie Frame proved too strong for Col Hayward, Gwenda Carty, Rob Irving and Frances Charlton and in the other first round match Col Mudie, Liz Byrne, Graham Barby and Margaret Hawken had a convincing win over Matt Parker, Elaine Miller, George Bradley and Eileen Bradley.
The Semi-finals were played on Sunday afternoon and turned out to be great matches.
In Brett Frame’s team, Rosemary Mitchell substituted for Rhona Went, and they started very well against Pat Cooney, John Dunn, Maureen Bailley and George Boatswain and lead 6 – 0 after the first two ends. Pat’s team came back and took the lead after eight ends, 9 – 8. They continued to hold on to the lead to eventually run out winners 21 -16.
In the other semi-final Col Mudie’s team met the team of Joe Davies, Maree Grant, Wally Grant and Brenda Davies. In a very close game the scores were tied at 5 all after seven ends. The lead changed hands a few times and after twelve ends Joe’s team lead by one shot 10 -9. They continued to maintain their lead and with three ends to play lead by 14 -12. Col’s team scored four shots on each of the next two ends and although Joe’s team scored three shots on the last end Col’s team advanced to the final with a 20 -17 win.
Handicap Singles.
On Saturday, Chris Dunn had a good win against Wilbur Harris; 25 -16 and backed up on Sunday to play Keith MacRae in the Semi-final.
In this match, Chris got five shots on handicap and after six ends lead 10 -2. Chris maintained his lead but Keith gradually caught up and after twenty-two ends Chris lead 21 – 19. Keith then scored four shots on the next ends but Chris replied scoring single shots on the next two ends. After twenty-five ends the scores were tied at 23 all but on the next end Keith scored the two shots he needed to take the match 25 – 23 and advance to the final.
Handicap Pairs.
Only one match was played and John Corcoran and Wilbur Harris had a convincing win over Dave Johnson and George Bradley.
Social Bowls.
Thursday, December 1.
Eighteen players turned out for three games of Pairs and one of Triples and all games were very close.
Results were:
John Ward and John Carr defeated Col Mudie and John Hodge 20 -19.
Joe Crowley and Jim Blake were just too strong for Gladrin Sun and Ron Fisher, winning 21 – 17.
Les Kent and Bob Freeman had a win over John Dunn and Greg Huggins, 22 -17.
In the Triples match John Corcoran, John Watson and Gordon Dickson had a win over Ron Hornery, Rob Irving and Col Woods, 21 -17
The prize winners on the day were Jim Blake and Joe Crowley and the Runner-Up Prize went to Brett and Cherrie Frame who had played a Championship match.
Saturday, December 3.
With a lot of Championship games being played, only twelve players turned out to play two games of Triples.
In a fairly low scoring game, John Ward, Rob Irving and Jim Blake lead all the way to score a 17 – 15 win against Guy Ellery, Ron Fisher and Greg Huggins.
In the other match John Carr, Les Kent and Joe Crowley also lead all the way to run out winners, 28 -19 against Ron Hornery, John Dunn and Bob Freeman.
Prizes on the day went to Championship match players with the main prize going to the Triples team of Joe Davies, Keith MacRae and Bernie Mitchell. The Runners-up prize went to Chris Dunn and Pat Cooney (who was Marker for the Singles match).
1300 Bugman Barefoot Bowls – Thursday, December 1.
A couple of teams couldn’t make it on Thursday night but fourteen teams turned out for a great night of bowls.
In the closest game of the night, The Golden Girls had lead all night but Pink scored four shots on the last end tie the match 12 all.
We Wreck ‘em ‘N’ We Fix ‘em had a lead of 10 -1 before the Hi Rollers won the last four ends but just fell short of a win, going down 10 -8
In other matches good wins were recorded by:
Bowl 4 Beer against The Butchers.
The Three Amigos against the Happy Wanderers.
Loopy Loppers 1 against Central West Glass.
Purple People against Rebelle.
The Royal against Bowl Bros.
Thanks again to the organisers for a great night of Bowls and the cooks for the after game snacks.

The Badge Draw was not won last week and this Friday will be worth $2400, and will be drawn after the raffles.
