Here's the latest from the Bowlie.
After a pretty busy Pennant season, we can now enjoy some local competition & getting the rest of our club Championships run & won.
Thursday - 10 /08 /2017
15 bowlers played 2 games of triples & 1 game of pairs.
In the first game of pairs, Ted Wright & Ray Jones got the better of Mike Valentine & John Hodge, running out winners 24 - 8
In the first game of triples, with Keith McCrae unable to find an opponent to argue with, so he lead for both sides.
Keith was joined by Ron Hornery & Arthur Corbett pitted against Keith, John Taylor & Geoff Freeman. For best part of this game the scores were fairly even 15 all at 16 ends, when Keith, John & Geoff finished off the better to take out the match 25 - 17
The third game, another game of Triples played in spirits & banter between John Watson, Chris Dunn & John Ward against Rob Irving, Bob Freeman & Colin Mudie. Team Mudie slipped out to a good lead of 10 - 5 at the 10 end mark, but team Ward slowly trying to peg them back. It wasn't until the 19th end where team ward picked up 4 shots to get the scores 13 - 15, & in true style team Ward dug there heals & won the final 2 ends taking 1 shot in each to make the scores level at the final whistle. A count back was required to separate the 2 teams, with Team Ward coming the the victors. John, Chris & John were also named the winning rink for the day, just to rub the salt into team Mudie's wounds.

21 local celebraties graced the fantastic manicured greens to play 1 game of triples & 4 games of pairs.
The game of triples was played between Jim Blake, Bob Freeman teaming up with John Ward, still on a high from his Thursday game feats, pitted against John Watson ( playing both lead & second ) for Nimo Mills. Unfortunately John could not carry on from Thursday, with John & Nimo controlling the game for most of the game, taking the spoils 28 - 21.
The first pairing of Mal Porter & Gary McPhee against the evergreen Gordon Dickson & Rhona NOT Ronda Wendt. This match was fairly close for the most part, with only 1 shot being the difference at the 13th end, but Dicko & Rhonda held the opposition off to win 17 - 14.
Game 3 was the teams of John Carr with Geoff Freeman doing battle with Rob Irving & Colin Mudie. Rob & Col were still seething from Thursday capitulation & came out full of fight to seek redemption by leading for all but the first end to take out the match convincingly by 27 - 15 on John & Geoff.
Game 4 was evenly played with some interesting ends played between the pairings of Gladrin Sun with Mark Dwyer up against John Taylor & Arthur Corbett. At the 13 end point, Gladrin & Mark lead 12 - 11 & the controlled the game to win 20 - 13 at stumps.
Game 5 was a game for the ages, the younger brigade up against not so younger brigade !!
Ray Jones partnering John Davies up against there much younger rivals in Martin Tighe & Tom Furey. Martin & Tom lead the early exchanges with the scores 11 - 9 at oranges, but the experience of Ray & John shone through to take out the battle 24 - 19. The comment from John saying to Ray " let's give it to these young fella's" obviously was the difference in the end.
John Watson & Nimo Mills were named the winning rink.
No one can call Gary McPhee greedy, after having his named called out for the first 2 draws in the 100 club, as he generously donated the second prize back to be redrawn, but when he was drawn out a third time he duely kept the spoils.

This weekend see's the LADIES CLASSIC TRIPLES being played occupying both rinks, we wish a very successful carnival. Saturday is a designated rest day for the men.

Last Friday night, John Parker was lucky enough to be present to collect the $1100 badge draw prize. So it reverts to $900 this Friday.

The ladies in the kitchen are on hand Friday night for a fantastic meal from 6 pm.

Good bowling & good health.
