Here is the latest news from the Bowlie.
MEMBERS PAIRS TOURNAMENT
44 bowlers competed for the $550 prize money in the club sponsored event. Each team played two games of 11 ends, with the losers from the first round playing losers and the winners playing winners. There were many very close matches and only five teams failed to win at least one game. The scoring system was very fair and gave teams with only one win a chance of being a prize winner. The winners were:
1st: Mick Craft and Baldy Frame – 2 wins and an aggregate of 43 points.
2nd: Phil Helies and Col Mudie – 2 wins and an aggregate of 32 points.
3rd: Guy Ellery and Steve Ryan – 2 wins and an aggregate of 28 points (on a countback).
4th: John Dunn and John Ward – 2 wins and an aggregate of 28 points.
5th: Gary McPhee and Geoff Freeman – 1 win and an aggregate of 27 points.
MIXED PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP
Semi-final matches were played last Wednesday. Both were very close and entertaining matches.
The first semi saw Rhona and Mick Went up against Chris Dunn and Pat Cooney. After the score was locked at 7 all, Chris and Pat gained a mini break to lead 14-9 after 13 ends. Rhona and Mick fought back to level the score at 15 all after 17 ends. Unfortunately for Chris and Pat it was all Rhona and Mick over the concluding ends as they scored 10 shots on the last three ends played to record a 25-15 win.
The other semi saw Margaret Hawken and Graham Barby play Gwenda Carty and Col Hayward. Margaret and Graham grabbed an early 9-0 lead before Gwenda and Col claimed the next four ends to lead 10-9. From then on the lead changed five times and the score level at 18 all after 19 ends. Margaret and Graham scored one shot to lead 19-18 with one end to play. Gwenda and Col then scored one shot to again level the score at 19 all after 21 ends. This meant an extra end had to be played to decide the winner and it was Gwenda and Col who managed to score one shot to claim the match 22-21.
The final will see Gwenda and Col up against Rhona and Mick.
BRAGGERS CUP
The Parkes Bowling and Sports Club bowlers recorded a 4-2 victory over Railway Diggers in the pairs matches played last Friday at Railway Diggers.
The teams of John Hodge and Mick Went, Alan Affleck and Baldy Frame, Gwenda Carty and Cherie Frame, and Maree Grant and Pat Cooney recorded wins. The teams of Tom Furey and Dave Johnson, and Matt Parker and Flip Fliedner lost their matches.
This Friday will see the return pairs played at the Parkes Bowling and Sports Club commencing at 6pm.
Condobolin Bowling Club has indicated they would like to participate in a similar challenge early next year. This will require 12 players who are willing to travel to Condobolin on a Friday night. Anyone wishing to play should give their name to a bowls committee member or Baldy Frame.
TWILIGHT BOWLS
54 bowlers turned out last Thursday in a night that saw two draws and the defeat of the competition leaders.
The Battlers scored one shot on the last end to snatch an 11 all draw with Casey Surveying. Casey Surveying won the ends 7-5.
Saints scored three shots on the last end to square up their match 12 all, and six ends each, against Golden Girls.
Elle won the last end to grab an 11-10 victory over Back Trundle Road 1.
Bushies led all the way in their upset 16-10 win over competition leaders Super Bees.
The other winning teams were High Rollers, Rok-FM, Rolling Stones, Uniting Church and Two and a Half Fitters.
Major winners were Rolling Stones with the minor winners being Rok-FM. The lucky losers prize was won by Battlers.
SOCIAL BOWLS
Thursday saw 33 bowlers contest seven games of pairs and one composite triples.
In the triples game Mick Blunt, playing lead and second, teamed with Col Woods and they were too strong for Kyle Ward, Bill Skinner and Joe Crowley. The final score being 30-16.
Gordon Dickson and Col Mudie scored six shots on the last end to snatch a 16 all draw in their very low scoring game against John Watson and Warren Bevan. John and Warren won the ends 12-9.
Rob Irving and Geoff Freeman, aided by one seven shot end, led all the way in their 29-14 win over Phil Helies and John Corcoran.
John Keogh and Ron Hornery won five of the last six ends to record a come from behind 28-19 win over Ray Jones and Greg Townsend.
John Hodge, using an artificial bowlers arm for the first time, and Baldy Frame scored a good 25-14 win over John Carr and Keith MacRae. John showed how the bowlers arm makes delivering the bowl much easier. Other members who have difficulty with delivering the jack or bowl should investigate this alternative.
Brendon Middendorf and Mike Valentine won the last four ends to win 18-13 in a close game against Troy Jones and John Dunn.
Nev Whitfield and John Ward scored a good 31-16 win over Bob Freeman and Kevin Hynds.
Leading 15-13 after 16 ends, Les Kent and Graham Dixon won the last five ends to defeat Jim Jennings and Greig Ball 24-13.

RULE OF THE WEEK
Question: An umpire is called to make a decision on a bowl near the boundary line and decides the bowl is dead. A skip is not happy with the decision of the umpire. Can the umpire’s decision be challenged?
Answer: No. Once the umpire has been called, his decision is final.

Happy bowling.
