TWILIGHT BOWLS
Never played Bowls or haven’t played for a while? Why not get together with 2 friends (or work mates if you want to enter a Business House team) and come along for a game of twilight bowls. What do you need? All you need is the weekly entry fee ($ 10 per person per week) and yourself. All other equipment is supplied by the Club and at the end of the night a free sausage sizzle is provided. Starting on Thursday, January 14, the first night is free and does count towards the overall competition which runs until the end of daylight saving. Would you please be at the club by 5.30pm for a 6.00pm start.
It’s a great fun night – look forward to seeing you there along with our regulars from last year.
Australia Day Mini Carnival.
We are still taking nominations for teams of four for this annual event which is being held on Tuesday, January 26. The event is sponsored by Littlewood Smash Repairs and Parkes Auto Wreckers and features $1000 prize money. The cost is $20 per player which includes a BBQ lunch. All bowlers are welcome and your team can be all men, all women or mixed and the dress is mufti.
The first game will be one Singles (first to 25 shots) and one Triples (15 ends).The second game will be 2 Pairs matches (15 ends).The final game will be Fours (10 ends)
SOCIAL BOWLS
Thursday, January 7.
26 Bowlers turned out for five games of Pairs and one game of triples.
In a close game of Pairs, Brett Frame and Joe Griffiths led Lee Hetherington and John Keogh by 8-2 after the first three ends. In winning eight of the next ten ends Lee and John had gone to a lead of 22-13 after thirteen ends before Brett and Joe won seven ends in a row to lead by 27- 22 . Lee and John took the last end but Brett and John scored a 27 – 23 win.
The Triples match was also fairly close. Steve Ryan, Rob Irving and Jim Blake were evenly matched by Guy Ellery, Joe Crowley and Bob Freeman with the lead changing several times until the nineteenth end where Steve’s team lead by one shot. They went on to score four shots on the twentieth end and though Guy’s team scored 3 on the last end they were just beaten 20 – 22.
In the other matches Col Mudie and Mike Valentine beat Graham and Gordon Dickson, Ron Hornery and Les Kent went down to John Ward and Bill Skinner , Craig Henry and Ray Jones were too good for John Carr and Bernie Mitchell and John Davies and John Hodge had a win over Col Hayward and John Dunn.
Prize winners on the day were Bill Skinner and John Ward and runners up were Col Mudie and Mike Valentine.
Saturday, January 9.
Four games of Pairs and one Triples were played with a couple of close results.
Brett frame and Noel Nicholson were down by 5 - 9 to John Corcoran and Bernie Mitchell after 6 ands.
Brett and Noel then won six ends to lead 21 to 9. John and Bernie fought back strongly but just failed to win, going down 22 – 24.
In their match against Rob Irving and Steven Mills, Ron Hornery and Jim Blake started fairly well to lead by 13 – 8 after thirteen ends. Rob’s team then scored a six on the next end and never looked back running out winners 22 – 17.
In other matches John Ward and Joe Crowley were too god for Col Mudie and Col Woods,Joe Davies and Les kent defeated Tom Casey and Ray Jones and in a Triples match Craig Henry, Steve Ryan and Tom Furey beat John O’Malley, John Hodge and Gordon Dickson in a game that someone described as “more fun than a barrel of monkeys”.
Prize winners on the day were John Ward and Joe Crowley and the runners up were John O’Malley, John Hodge and Gordon Dickson
Sunday, January 10.
Numbers were down for the Sunday night Bowls but, thanks to 3 visitors from Springsure in Queensland, two games of Pairs were played. Rob Irving teamed with Colleen Kelly (a visitor) to play the other two visitors Eddie Pringle and Judy Hay. The two Queenslanders played some great bowls and defeated Rob and Colleen by 18 – 13.
The other match saw Craig Henry and Keith MacRae lead all the way to beat Tom Furey and Bob Freeman 30 – 10.
Prize winners on the night were Rob Irving and Keith MacRae
The District Championships.
Nominations have closed or will close later this month for the various District Championships.
The Triples closed on January, 10 and the event will be played at Condoblin on January 30 & 31.
The Fours close on January 17 and the event will be played at Forbes on February 6 & 7.
The Pairs and Seniors Pairs close on January 24 and will be played at Parkes Railway Diggers on February 13 & 14.
The Singles and Seniors Singles close on January 31 and will be played at our Club on February 20 – 21 and 27 – 28.
Entries for the Presidents Pairs close on January 24 and the Presidents Singles and Seniors Singles close on January 31. Both of these events will be played at Peak Hill – the Pairs on February 13 & 14 and the Singles and Seniors on February on February 20 – 21 and 27 – 28.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
The new arrangements for the Club Major Singles, Major Pairs and Major Fours are displayed on the notice board. The draws for the Singles, Pairs and Fours have been made and are also on display on the Notice Board. Numbers for these events are quite pleasing with twenty eight players contesting the Singles, sixteen teams of Pairs and Eight teams of Fours.
Nominations for the Triples will be posted later in the year.

GENERAL
Friday Night.
Things return to normal this Friday following the “Elvis” Festival.
The usual “early bird” meat tray raffle will be drawn about 6.30pm followed by the major raffle with prizes of meat trays, Vouchers and Cash which will be drawn at about 8 o’clock.
As usual , great Pub style meals will be available at reasonable prices from Mel’s Café.
The Members badge draw is $1,200 this week.
Euchre Competition.
The club is starting a euchre competition on Wednesday nights. If you like a game of cards come along to the Club at 7.00 PM on Wednesday, January 20 and each subsequent Wednesday. Weekly prizes will be there to be won as well as a prize for the overall winner at the end of the Competition. All are welcome – love to see you there.
