CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
Minor Singles and Pairs semi-finals were played during the last week.
The Minor Singles semi-final saw Mike Valentine play Peter McPhee. After an even start to the match, which saw only seven shots scored on the first six ends, Mike held a narrow 4-3 lead. Peter then won the next four ends to grab a handy 12-4 lead. Mike hit back, winning the next six ends to lead 17-12. Mike maintained this margin until Peter scored six shots on two ends to level at 23all. The next few ends were hotly contested with Mike holding a 26-25 lead. Mike then won three of the last four ends to score the necessary shots and record a 31-26 win. Mike will now play Steve Ryan in the final.
In Minor Pairs Craig Henry and John O’Malley played John Hodge, subbing for George Boatswain, and Terry Hetherington. This match saw Craig and John establish a handy five shot lead on two occasions before John and Terry fought back to level the scores. Craig and John held a six shot lead, 18-12, after 14 ends. John and Terry again fought back to level the score at 18all. The rain then became more persistent and Craig and John handled the conditions better than their opponents, scoring eight shots on the next three ends to take the match 26-18. Craig and John will now play Mick Craft and Greg Fisher in the final.
The draw for both the Minor and Major Triples are on the board so teams can now arrange their first round matches.
