MAJOR FOURS CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
Congratulations to Ted Wright, Col Mudie, Graham Barby and John Davies who are the Major Fours Club Champions for 2014.
Details of all matches played over the weekend follows:
10 teams lined up last Saturday to contest the title.
Two matches were played Saturday morning to see who joined the other six teams who had a bye in the first round.
Steve Turner, Paul Henry, Mark Dwyer and Brett Frame had a comfortable win over John Dunn, Max Tomkins, Garry Went and John Corcoran.
The other match was decided on the last end with Wally Grant, Mick Craft, Ron Hornery and Geoff Freeman defeating Terry Hetherington, John Carr, Dave Buggie and Keith MacRae 25-24.
Four second round matches were played Saturday afternoon.
Noel Nicholson, Steve Ryan, Robert Corbett and Arthur Corbett defeated Wally Grant, Mick Craft, Ron Hornery and Geoff Freeman 24-15.
Ted Wright, Col Mudie, Graham Barby and John Davies defeated Dave Johnson, Craig Henry, Peter McPhee and Graham Fliedner 22-17.
Wilbur Harris, Bruce Deland, Dean Searl and Warren Bevan defeated Kevin Hynds, Matthew Parker, Warwick Parker and Michael Went 24-12.
Steve Turner, Paul Henry, Mark Dwyer and Brett Frame defeated Steve Mills, Greg Townsend, Mike Valentine and John Hodge 20-12.
The semi-finals were played Sunday morning.
John Davies’s team won a tight match against Arthur Corbett’s team. With the score 13all after 14 ends team Davies won five of the last seven ends to win 21-15.
Warren Bevan’s team came from behind to record a good 28-18 win over Brett Frame’s team. Team Frame held a 14-5 lead after eight ends. From then on it was all team Bevan who won nine of the last eleven ends to record a very good win.
The final was played Sunday afternoon with Warren Bevan’s team up against John Davies’s team. Team Davies got out to lead 13-6 after 13 ends. Team Bevan fought back to trail 16-13 after 19 ends. Team Davies scored five shots on the next end to seal the match 21-13. The final was a closer contest than the final score indicates and was a fitting climax to a lot of great bowls played over the weekend.
GRADE 5 STATE PENNANT TITLES
After winning the Zone title our Grade 5 pennant side goes to Tamworth this weekend to try and win the State title.
The team is: Greig Ball, Warren Bevan, Dave Buggie, John Carr, Mick Craft, Mark Dwyer, Greg Fisher, Keith MacRae, Peter McPhee, Col Mudie, John O’Malley, Matthew Parker and Mike Valentine (reserve). The team is managed by Pam MacRae. We wish them well in their quest.
THURSDAY SOCIAL BOWLS
28 bowlers played seven games of pairs in very windy conditions.
Mick Blunt and Terry Hetherington played Brendon Middendorf and John Hodge. In a low scoring game Mick and Terry held a narrow 7-6 lead after 11 ends. Mick and Terry extended their lead over the last 10 ends to run out winners 18-10.
Kevin Robinson and Geoff Freeman played Blake Thompson and Brett Frame. Kevin and Geoff dominated the early stages of this game and held a good 24-5 lead after 14 ends. The last seven ends were closely contested with Kevin and Geoff finally winning 31-15.
John Dunn and Graham Barby played John Keogh and Col Mudie. John and Graham held a 16-5 lead after 11 ends and held on to win 22-15.
Ray Jones and Bob Riseborough played Steve Ryan and Mike Valentine. Ray and Bob got out to a 20-9 lead and went to win 22-15.
Joe Crowley and Keith MacRae had a 20-14 win over Briam Harrison and Dave Buggie.
Alan Affleck and Graham Dixon had a hard fought 17-13 win over John Watson and Wally Grant. This game featured 15 one shot ends.
Bob Freeman and Kevin Hynds had a very good 27-10 win over Ian Mill and Gary McPhee.
The major winners were John Dunn and Graham Barby and the minor winners were Joe Crowley and Keith MacRae.
SATURDAY SOCIAL BOWLS
16 bowlers played four games of pairs. This gave a total of 54 bowlers participating on Saturday.
Bill Skinner and Joe Crowley scored six shots on the last end to defeat Guy Ellery and George Boatswain 20-18.
Wes Westcott and Alan Affleck led all the way in their 22-16 win over Bob Freeman and Allan Wright.
Tom Furey and John Dunn won the last three ends to come from behind to defeat Bernie Mitchell and Rhona Went 22-20.
Stuart Kelly and John Corcoran played Ron Murray and Bruce Orr. Stuart and John led 17-3 after 15 ends and despite losing the last six ends, held on to win 17-14.
The major winners were the major fours team of Steve Turner, Paul Henry, Mark Dwyer and Brett Frame and the minor winners were another major fours team of Noel Nicholson, Steve Ryan, Robert Corbett and Arthur Corbett.
SUNDAY MORNING JACKPOT
10 bowlers played one game of pairs and one of triples.
Bob Freeman, Alan Affleck and Mal Porter came from a 0-6 score line to defeat Ian Brown, Mick Blunt and Chris Dunn 14-9.
John Dunn and Dave Johnson won the last two ends to edge out Guy Ellery and Kevin Hynds 15-12.
Prize winners were Chris Dunn, John Dunn, Kevin Hynds, and Bob Freeman.
The jackpot was not won and remains at $1000. The range of numbers for the jackpot margin is being reduced by two each week until the jackpot is won. Next week the range will be 1-7.
Come along on Sunday morning for a game of bowls, a sausage sandwich, and a chance to win the jackpot. Names in by 9:30am for a 10:00am start.
STATE CLUB CHALLENGE
Bowlers interested in representing the club in this event are asked to put their name on the sheet which is displayed on the hallway notice board.
