CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.
On Thursday, September 28 Col Mudie, Ron Hornery and Wally Grant played a Major Triples match against Steve “Nimo” Mills, Bernie Mitchell and George Bradley. Col’s team played well early on and after three ends lead 10-0. “Nimo’s” team gradually improved and after fourteen ends the scores were level, 14 all. It wasn’t until the sixteenth end that the lead changed hands but “Nimo’s” team won seven of the last ten ends to win 29-21 and advance to the Semi-Final.
Saturday afternoon saw a great Minor Triples match when Wally Grant, Rob Irving and John Watson came up against Guy Ellery, Wilbur Harris and Steve Turner. At the start of the match scores were evenly divided and after eight ends were locked 7 all. Wally’s team scored two shots on the ninth end but Guy’s team then won six of the next seven ends to take a seven shot lead, 18-11, which was the biggest margin of the game. Not to be outdone, Wally’s team scored twelve shots on the next five ends and, with three ends to play led, 23-18. Guy’s team scored a single on the twenty-third end and regained the lead on the second last end, scoring five shots to lead 24-23. In a tense last end Guy’s team scored a single shot to win the match 25-23.
On Sunday morning, October 1 Tom Fury, Dave Johnson and Gary McPhee played a Major Triples match against Warren Bevan, Dean Searle and Wilbur Harris. Team Furey won the first two ends but Team Bevan replied, winning the next two ends to lead 4-2. On the fifth end, Tom’s team regained the lead and in spite of some great bowls by Warren’s team, they were never headed again and went on to score a good win, 26-17 and advance to the Semi-Final.
On Sunday afternoon, in another Major Triples match John Davies, Keith MacRae and Graham Barby played a close match against Guy Ellery, Steve Turner and Wally Austin. Guy’s team had the better of the early ends and at one stage lead 9-1 but after a close struggle, John’s team had the lead going into the final end and Guy’s team needed the maximum six shots to force an extra end but John, Keith and Graham won the match and advanced to the next round.

Twilight Bowls.
Just a reminder that this competition will re-start on Thursday night, October 12, be there by 6.30 for a 7.00pm start.
We look forward to welcoming back all the teams that played last year and would also like to see some new players this year.
It’s a great, relaxed way to get into our sport so, if you have never played before or want to return to bowls, come along on the night to register. We are looking for teams of three or come along on your own and we will try to team you up with a couple of other players
All equipment is proved so all you need are some flat soled shoes – or play barefoot if you prefer.
Cost is $10 per week but the first night is free and the light supper after the game will be roast lamb, cooked on a spit by Tom Furey and his helpers and our bar staff will gladly serve you a nice cool drink, alcoholic or otherwise.
Look forward to seeing you on the night.
Social Bowls starting time.
A Reminder also that as yet no decision has been made about the starting times for Thursday and Saturday Bowls during the daylight savings period. For the next two weeks the time will remain at 12-30 for a 1.00Pm start and an announcement will be made when the committee decides if any change is needed.
Badge Draw.
The Badge Draw was not won last Friday and will be worth $1100 this week and will be drawn on Friday night sometime after 8-00, after the meat and voucher raffles. You have to be there to win it so come along and have a great pub style meal and may be go home with a bundle of cash in your pocket.
