Here’s the latest from the Bowlie.
SOCIAL BOWLS.
With things winding down for the Christmas break and the recent hot weather, all has been fairly quiet on the greens this week.
Thursday, December 7.
Only twelve players, including Graham Nicholson visiting from the Glass House Mountains in Queensland, turned out to play three games of Pairs.
Results were;
John Ward and Col Woods defeated Warren Bevan and Greg Huiggins 27-19.
Ron Hornery and Jim Blake defeated Rob Irving and Gordon Dickson 21-9.
Gary McPhee and Bruce Deland defeated Graham Nicholson and George Bradley 23-9.
Saturday, December 9.
Only nine players turned up and Col Woods volunteered to pair with John Ward to play himself and Gary McPhee. The good news was that Col was assured of running first and second in this “two horse” race. The result was that John and Col were too good for Gary and Col, winning 20-13.
In a game of Triples, Ron Hornery, John Dunn and John Watson “flew out of starting gate” to lead John Carr, Rob Irving and Bob Freeman 16-2 after six ends. John, Rob and Bob fought back hard and won ten of the remaining ends but could not bridge the gap and Ron and the two Johns ran out winners 27-19.
Twilight Bowls.
On the final night of the first half of the season, another great night of Bowls saw 56 players turning out to play nine games of Triples with one drawn match, some close results and some not so close.
In the drawn match, Bowl Bros and We Wreck ‘em ‘N’ We Fix ‘em went shot for shot to finish 8 all.
Three Amigos defeated Cousins by one shot, 11-10 and High Rollers had a similar result against Golden Girls, winning 13-12.
Two shots separated Loopy Loppers 2 and Elvii, the Loppers winning 11-9 and the same margin separated Hard Rock Rollers and Toyota Turtles, the Rollers winning 9-7.
In other matches;
Beer “N” End Just got home , 8-5 against Hodgey’s Heroes.
Loopy Loppers 1 defeated Purple People 13-7.
Happy Wanderes had a good win against Rebelle.
Casey Surveying had a hard fought win against Pink.
Once again, Wilbur Harris of Parkes Mensland donated three tee shirts and the lucky winners were Pink.
Supper, spit roasted lamb, was cooked to perfection by Wilbur Harris and proved a great end to what has been a great first half of the season.
Thanks again to Tom Furey, Bob Riseborough and all the helpers for the great job they do in organising this competition.
Look forward to seeing you all in early February – date to be announced.
Christmas Greetings
I would just like to take this opportunity to wish all our bowlers and readers all the best for the festive season and for the coming year.
I would also like to thank the Men’s Bowling Club Committee and all the volunteers who put so much time and effort in to looking after the greens and grounds of the club and organising the various Tournaments, Competitions and Social Days – your efforts are greatly appreciated.
I don’t wish to single out any particular volunteers but I feel I should make special mention of Col Hayward and Col Mudie. These two gentlemen have, for a long time, been closely involved in preparing and maintaining the greens and have decided that the time has come for them to retire to a quieter life. Thanks for all the hard work you have put in over the years – you will be very hard to replace. Your efforts will be missed but we wish you all the best in the future and look forward to seeing you on the greens next year.
Thanks, also, to our many sponsors for your support during the year and the staff at “Champion Post” for your support and help during the year.
Badge Draw.
The Badge Draw was not won last Friday and will be worth $2200 this week and will be drawn on Friday night sometime after 8:pm, after the meat and voucher raffles. You have to be there to win it so come along and have a great pub style meal and may be go home with a bundle of cash in your pocket.
