Parkes Bowling and Sports Club notes.
By Johnny Perella.
Thursday bowls.

Twelve brave souls turned out in very tough conditions and played three games of mufti pairs.
Kevin Hynds and John Dunn were in a menacing mood as they dismantled Graham Barby and Merv Hennock 30-10.
Steve Ryan and Mike Valentine overcame a spirited challenge From John Corcoran and Trevor Rowney 22-16.
No doubt the game of the day was thrilling 16-15 win for Ray Jones and Greig Ball over Colin Mudie and John Ward, Ray and Greig scoring a two on the last end for victory.
The social mufti this week will be run by Ron Murray and Steve Ryan.
Saturday Bowls.
The much needed rain put a stop to any bowls being played last Saturday but it will be on again this week, there will be social bowls plus Handicap pairs quarter finals matches played and looking after things will be Wally Austin and Max Tomkins.
Sunday bowls.
Just one game of social bowls and one handicap pair’s match were played on Sunday morning.
In the handicap pairs match Craig Cusack and Craig Henry proved far too good for Ben Townsend and Ryan McLuckie , taking the lead early they were allways well in front powering away over the closing stages for a convincing 32-18 win.
The social game was triples, in which George Boatswain, David Burgess and Elaine Burgess had a solid 19-3 win over Dave Johnson, Tom Cole and June Burgess.
The jackpot was not won and will move on to a healthy $640 for next Sunday.
This Sunday there will be semi-finals of the Handicap pairs played with the final played the following Saturday.
The Blue side will travel to Dubbo and take on Dubbo Railway in the second round of the State Cup
WELL ATTENDED AGM
The annual general meeting of the Parkes Bowling and Sports Club was held last Monday evening and attracted a healthy and lively crowd.
The club showed a small profit for the year’s trading despite having to make several repairs and improvements to assets during the year.
Several new faces were elected to the board and this should ensure the continuing success of the club.
Ray Jones was returned as chairperson of the board and will be supported by deputies Liz Byrne and Eddie McPhee, along with other board members Maureen Stone, Steve Ryan, Rhona Went, John Hodge and Bruce Orr.
Long serving stalwart Gwenda Carty was elected as treasurer and office manager.
When addressing members, Ray warned that we are facing uncertain times and will need to handle our finances carefully to sustain the future of the club.
Following the Board meeting the annual meeting of the Men’s Bowling Section was held and again several new faces appear on the board and sub committees.
Despite having to spend heavily on locker room and green improvements the bowls section was able to hold its own and looks forward to making more improvements and providing even better bowls and conditions over the coming year.
President of three years, John Ward stood down and was replaced by Tony Byrne, who will be supported by vice presidents Colin Mudie and Paul Henry along with Treasurer Keith MacRae.
The new bowls secretary is Garry McPhee, replacing the hard working Terry Hethrington. Garry will be supported by the new look board of Graham Barby, Dave Johnson, Craig Henry, Brian Austin and John Ward.
Several recommendations were made to the incoming board by members present and among them were that the Annual General Meeting of the Men’s Bowling section be held on a separate date to the Board’s.
It was also recommended that all championship matches be streamlined and the time taken up playing them is shortened, and also that the board look into promoting more minor players to major status.
This will be my final column as publicity officer and i would like to thank anyone who contributed and made my job a little easier, in particular the staff at the Champion Post who was most helpful.

Good Bowling.
