Frame & Corbett Win Carnival

Here is the latest news from the Bowlie.
MIXED PAIRS CARNIVAL
20 teams contested the annual mixed pairs carnival.
Parkes teams made up the majority of the field and also won the majority of the prize money.
Carnival winners were:
1st – Cherie Frame and Robert Corbett (5Wins + 40)
2nd – Marie and Wally Grant (4W + 42)
3rd – Ellie Hetherington and Brian Parker (4W + 12)
4th – Mavis Gray and John Hodge (3W + 26)
5th – Margaret Hawken and Graham Barby (3W + 18)

One of the highlights of the carnival was the scoring of a maximum eight shots on one end by Ellie Hetherington and Brian Parker. A special award was presented to Ellie and Brian. Brian had made the trip in from Tottenham to play in the carnival.
SUNDAY MORNING JACKPOT
12 bowlers turned out to try to win the $1000 jackpot.
Don Littlewood and Ted Wright had a good win over Tom Cole and Rob Irving 17-7
Bob Freeman and Mal Porter played Barrie Freeman and Margaret O’Malley. Bob and Mal led 10-0 after five ends and then Barrie and Margaret fought back to get within two shots of the opposition, only to see Bob and Mal win the last three ends and the match 21-12.
Mick Blunt and Greg Townsend were always in control of their match against Rob Kelly and John Dunn, winning 17-8.
Prize winners were Mal Porter, Ted Wright, Tom Cole and John Dunn.
The jackpot was not won and remains at $1000.
Come along next Sunday for a game, a sausage sizzle, and to be in the running for the $1000 jackpot.
SOCIAL
20 bowlers turned out on Thursday playing five games of Pairs.
Unfortunately the score cards went missing, so I cannot give you the full details.
From information gathered the match results were:
Gordon Dickson and John O’Malley defeated Rob Irving and Graham Barby.
Bernie Mitchell and Arthur Corbett defeated Bob Freeman and Col Hayward.
Bill Skinner and Gary McPhee defeated John Hodge and Mike Valentine.
Norm Keane and Col Mudie defeated John Dunn and John Carr.
Ray Jones and Steve Ryan defeated Craig Henry and Greig Ball.
Thursday’s major prize winners were Gordon Dickson and John O’Malley and the minor winners were Bernie Mitchell and Arthur Corbett.
Saturday saw 12 bowlers play three games of Pairs.
Col Woods and Gary McPhee were in great form against Gordon Dickson and Mike Parkes, running out easy winners 25-9.
Tom Cole and Noel Nicholson played John Dunn and Keith MacRae. This was a very close fought match with the scores locked together 9all after 14 ends. Tom and Noel then won six of the last seven ends to run out victors 16-10.
Ron Murray and Greig Ball played Norm Keane and Ray Jones. Ron and Greig led 11-5 after nine ends. Norm and Ray then proceeded to win 11 of the last 12 ends to run away with the match 35-12.
Saturday prize winners were Norm Keane and Ray Jones.
GENERAL
Our club has entered teams in both the Gold and Blue Divisions of the State Club Challenge. Gold is for teams that competed in Grade 1 Pennants and Blue is for teams that competed in Grades 5-7 Pennants.
The Gold team is drawn against two Dubbo teams, West Dubbo and Dubbo Railway.
They commence their challenge at home this Saturday against Dubbo Railway. The seven bowlers selected are Brett Frame, Tom Casey, Col Hayward, Geoff Freeman, John Davies, Michael Went and Graham Fliedner.
The Blue team has the bye this weekend.
Bowlers are reminded of some upcoming events.
Men’s Classic Triples Carnival is on 12th and 13th October with nominations closing on 9th October and a reminder that Twilight Bowls will commence on Thursday 10th October with nominations closing 8th October.
