56 Bowlers For Australia Day Mini Carnival

Here's the latest news from the Club.
A very successful Australia Day Mini Carnival was held on Monday, January 26. 56 bowlers enjoyed the Parkes Auto Wreckers and Littlewood Smash Repairs sponsored event. A big thank you to Neville and David for their continued support of our club. Prize winners on the day were:
1st – Chris Dunn, John Dunn, Tom Furey and John Ward
Equal 2nd – Elaine Miller, Craig Henry, Dave Johnson and Steve Turner
Equal 2nd – W Moon, G Lambert, M Connelly and G West (Forbes)
4th – Matt Parker, Steve Ryan, Peter McPhee and Warwick Parker
Special Australia Day awards were presented to Kevin Hynds, Les Kent, Mike Valentine and Ron Hornery. These awards were presented by the Parkes Australia Day Ambassador, Annabelle Williams.
Thanks also to Graham Barby for his efforts in organising and running of the event.
Three teams competed in the Railway Diggers President’s Day. The team of Alan Affleck, Joe Crowley and Mike Valentine won two of their three matches and picked up the afternoon winners prize.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
Six matches were played during the week.
In major singles Graham Barby had a good 31-8 win over Ron Hornery. Dave Johnson dominated the second half of his match against George Boatswain to run out a 31-20 winner. The last major singles match saw a very close tussle between Warren Bevan and John Corcoran. John opened up a handy 17-9 lead then Warren fought back to grab the lead 26-24 and then again led 28-27. The next end saw John saw a maximum four shots to claim the match 31-28.
Minor singles matches saw John Dunn and Wally Grant go head to head. In a very close match John prevailed to win 31-29. John then took on Gary McPhee on Saturday. Gary gained the lead after seven ends and was too strong for John, winning 31-18.
The last match saw Rob Irving and Wally Grant play Alan Affleck and Joe Crowley in minor pairs. This started out a very close match with Rob and Wally holding a narrow 14-13 lead after 16 ends. Rob and Wally then won four of the last five ends to claim the win 25-14.
THURSDAY JACKPOT BOWLS
20 social bowlers played two games of pairs and two games of triples.
The first triples game saw Gordon Dickson, Bill Skinner and Gary McPhee only lose five ends in their 28-6 win over Bob Freeman, Colin Woods and Kevin Hynds.
After trailing 10-18, George Bradley, Jim Jennings and John Ward scored 11 shots on the last four ends to defeat Les Kent, George Boatswain and Mike Valentine 21-18.
The first pairs game saw Joe Crowley and Baldy Frame up against John Keogh and Col Hayward. Joe and Baldy led 12-6 after 12 ends and still held a narrow 14-13 lead after 18 ends. John and Col scored four shots on the next end and then restricted Joe and Baldy to one shot on each of the last two ends to record a 17-16 win.
The other pairs game saw John Watson and Geoff Freeman play Allan Wright and Ted Wright. Allan and Ted scored four shots on the first end before John and Geoff won the next seven ends to lead 17-4. Allan and Ted fought hard but were unable to bridge the gap with John and Geoff going on to win 27-12.
Major prize winners were John Keogh and Col Hayward with the minor prize winners being George Bradley, Jim Jennings and John Ward. The jackpot was won by John Watson, Geoff Freeman, Allan Wright and Ted Wright.
SATURDAY SOCIAL BOWLS
28 bowlers took to the green on Saturday afternoon and played seven games of pairs.
Bernie Mitchell and Bruce Orr had a narrow 20-17 win over John Keogh and Mike Valentine.
Tom Furey and Col Hayward, helped by three big scoring ends, were too strong in their 30-11 win over Ron Fisher and Robert Corbett.
Les Kent and Col Mudie played Ron Hornery and Mark Dwyer. In a close low scoring start the score was 10 all after 15 ends. Ron and Mark then won five of the last six ends to win 21-13.
Colin Woods and Graham Dixon led all the way in their 26-16 win over Bob Freeman and Steve Turner.
Gordon Dickson and Arthur Corbett had a good 25-14 win over Bill Skinner and Ted Wright.
Ray Jones and Keith MacRae led all the way in their 18-13 win over Graham Turner and Geoff Freeman.
The last game saw Chris Dunn and Nimo Mills up against Robyn Morgan and John Ward. This was a game of fluctuating fortunes. Chris and Nimo got away to a great start and led 19-6 after 11 ends. Robyn and John fought back, winning six of the next eight, to grab the lead 25-22. Chris and Nimo scored two shots on each of the last two ends to claim victory 26-25.
Major winners were Gary McPhee and Pat Cooney (marker) with the minor prize going to Chris Dunn and Nimo Mills.
THURSDAY TWILIGHT BOWLS
58 bowlers took to the greens with a number of new teams competing.
One of the new teams, Mike’s Kitchen, started with a come from behind 11-10 win over Back Trundle Road 2.
Casey Surveying 1 came from an 11-4 deficit to defeat Saints 14-12 and Bowl Bros scored two shots on the last end to snatch a 10-9 win over Back Trundle Road 1.
Major prize winners were We Wreck ‘M N We Fix ‘M with Bushies being the minor prize winners. Lucky losers prize went to Super Bees.
SUNDAY MORNING JACKPOT
16 bowlers enjoyed the pleasant weather last Sunday playing four games of pairs.
Malcolm Watt and John Dunn had a narrow 16-12 win over Bob Freeman and Maureen Bailey.
Ian Simpson and Tom Furey combined well to defeat Geoff Bloom and Mal Porter 21-7.
Keith Hutchison and Clive Stibbard had a very good win over Paul Kiffen and Mick Horan.
Nimo Mills and George Boatswain led 14-4 and held on to defeat the fast finished pair of Gladrin Sun and Chris Dunn 14-13.
Prize winners were Gladrin Sun, Keith Hutchison, Bob Freeman, Chris Dunn and John Dunn.
The jackpot was not won and remains at $1000. Come along on Sunday morning for a game of bowls, a sausage sandwich, and a chance to win the jackpot. Names in by 9:30am for a 10:00am start.
