Here’s the latest from the Bowlie.
SOCIAL BOWLS.
Thursday, September 14.
A small field of fourteen players braved the cold, windy conditions to play two games of Pairs and one Triples.
Graham Dixon brought along three friends and he paired with Tony Yeo to play against Mick Baxter and Lajos Szabos. Mick and Lajos scored well on the early ends and led 9-2after seven ends. The eighth end was won by Graham and Tony who scored five shots. Five of the next six ends went to Mick and Lajos and they opened up a lead of 15-9. Graham and Tony fought back and with three ends to play had taken the lead 18-15. Not to be outdone, Mick and Lajos won the last three ends to win the match 20-18.
In the other Pairs match, Greg Howlett and Graham Barby had a convincing win against Geoff Freeman and Martin Tighe.
In the Triples game, Col Mudie, Ron Hornery and Ray Jones had a fairly narrow win, 22-17 over Keith MacRae, Bob Freeman and John Hodge.
The winners on the day were Keith’s Triples team.
Saturday, September 2.
With the visit from the Cardiff Travelling bowlers, only two games of Pairs were played.
Ray Jones and John Hodge had a win over Gary McPhee and Joe Crowley, 17-13 and Col Mudie and Ron Fisher defeated Geoff Freeman and Ted Wright, 27-19.
Cardiff Travelling Bowlers.
On the weekend the Club hosted a team of Bowlers and their supporters from Cardiff in NSW.
Thirteen men and fifteen ladies bowlers made the trip and on Saturday the two clubs went head to head, the ladies playing four games of triples and, with one of the visitors joining Liz Byrne, one game of Pairs and the men also played four Triples and a Pairs game with George Boatswain (who once played at Cardiff) joining them in the Pairs match..
The Ladies event resulted in a win for Parkes, three games to two, with some very close scores and the biggest margin being six shots.
Parkes also had a win in the men’s event winning four of the matches and drawing the fifth.
On Sunday forty-eight players, twenty four from each Club played eight games of Mixed Triples but the teams were selected randomly to mix up players from both Clubs.
Some results were fairly close, with one drawn match and one won by a single shot and a couple were not so close but all in all, everyone had a great day in what were perfect weather conditions.
I think all of the Cardiff team enjoyed their stay in Parkes and we look forward to catching up with them some time in the future.
As usual, these events do not organise themselves and the club would like to thank all those involved in making it a great weekend.
Badge Draw.
The Badge Draw was won last Friday and will be worth $900 this week and will be drawn on Friday night after the meat and voucher raffles. You have to be there to win it so come along and have a great pub style meal and may be go home with a bundle of cash in your pocket.
