Baldy wins District Singles Championship.
By Johnny Perella.( back in the saddle again)
Baldy Frame took the district open singles title after a titanic struggle against Bruce Williams of Forbes. The final was played at the Parkes Railway club on Saturday afternoon, with the crowd being treated to a first class singles match with the scores neck and neck all the way. Both players had chances to win outright over the last couple of ends, but with scores locked on 30 all it was Baldy who got the shot required to clinch his third district singles title and a chance to again contest the Zone finals at a later date.
Unfortunately Garry McPhee failed in his attempt to win the District President Singles, he was soundly beaten by Keith Hadrill from Condobolin 31-12 at Condobolin.
Well what a busy time we are having with District matches, Business House Bowls, and Club Championship games getting under way as well as the Pennant season just around the corner.
Throw in Sunday morning and afternoon Mixed Mufti as well as the usual Thursday and Saturday comps, the place is really hopping.
By now the eagerly awaited pennant sides will have been announced and judging by the amount of players who have nominated we should have four pretty handy sides.
Social bowls.
Twenty six starters for Thursday social mufti with the stand out match being a narrow 18-17 win to Colin Hayward and Bill Wyatt over the fast finishing John Carr and Mike Valentine.Another nail-biter saw Geoff Freeman and Greig Ball just edge out Col Mudie and Bruce Deland 18-15. Also giving spectators their money’s worth were Noel Nicholson and Wally Austin powering home for an impressive 20-14 win over John Corcoran and Ron Hornery.
Starters for this coming Thursday social mufti are Greig Ball and Tony Byrne.
There were six social games and four major pair’s championship matches played on Saturday. In the major pairs big winners were Mark Dwyer and Wilbur Harris 30-15 against Craig Henry and Dave Johnson.Recording a sensational win were Eddie and Peter McPhee as they picked up a three on the last end to outs six times champs Col Hayward and Arthur Corbett 18-17.Other winners were Geoff Freeman and John O’Malley 25-20 against Tony Bright and Ron Hornery and Col Mudie and John Corcoran were too strong for Mike Parkes and Bernie Mitchell 26-13.
Best of the social games was a narrow 21-18 win to John Davies and Mike Valentine over Rob Tinker and Greg Ballantyne and a 23-19 victory for Ray Jones and John Keogh against Steve Ryan and Joe Crowley.
Starters for this week will be Noel Nicholson and Graham Barby.
Business House Bowls.
The stand out game on Wednesday evening was a thrilling 16-15 win for Ditch Bitches over Maree’s Costumes, and in a great struggle Headless Chooks def ROK FM 15 -12.
Thursday the game of the night was a very narrow 14-13 win to Casey Surveying over the fast finishing Just Us. Winners on the night were Revamped and the runners up were United Church.
Sunday Bowls.
No social Mixed Mufti due to the rain but morning social bowls went ahead and attracted a good field of sixteen, winning the day was Ian Shaples, Keith Middleton and Tom Cole.
The jackpot of $1000 failed to go off and for next week two numbers will drop off and only 11 will be put into the draw, a great chance to win some serious money and have a great morning’s fun.

Coming Events.
The first round of the major pairs is to be completed this Saturday 3rd February; likewise the opening round of the Minor pairs must be played by this Sunday 4th February.
Friday nights continue to be well patronised and is a great night out for members and guests especially with the members badge draw up to a very healthy $1100.
Good Bowling,

Johnny Perella.
