G'Day, and welcome to this weeks news from the Bowlie.
PENNANTS.
Sunday saw both the Ones and Fives in action, the Ones on the long trip to Nyngan, where they had to win big to stay in the hunt and they came up trumps with a big 6/0 win, so they are on their way. But this weekend will tell the story, with a double header at home.Saturday afternoon they will play Dubbo Railway, and Sunday Dubbo West, the time for the Sunday Game is yet to be determined, it will probably be 11am, so check with the Club.
The Fives were at home to Dubbo Railway and had to keep on winning to stay alive. And they had a big 5/1 win, this will put them very close to the top, but their big test will be on Sunday, when they travel to Peak Hill, if they win there they will be good odds to take out the District Flag, good luck to both Teams.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP BOWLS.
Three finals were played on Saturday, in the Major Singles, Baldy Frame did battle with Robert Corbett, in a game that went down to the wire, Baldy got up 31/30, it wasn't till the 27th end that Robert hit the lead, scoring a four and taking the lead 27/23, from there is was end for end, when on the 33rd end Robert led 30/27, but Baldy was not to be denied, scoring a one, then went out with a bang, scoring a four, so he is now the Club Champion.
In the Minor Singles, Kevin Hynds met Greg Ballantine for the Title, with Kev getting up 31/18, Kev was never headed, while Greg, as a new Bowler, put up a magnificient performance to get to the finals in his first year, watch him next year.
In the Final of the Major Pairs, the old Guns Arthur Corbett and Col Hayward met the young guns Craig Cusack and Mick Went, and experience counted, with Arthur and Col getting a comfortable win 30/12.
There were two games of Minor Triples also played on the day, with Bill Skinner (sub) Alan Affleck and Norm Keane getting up over Steve Turner John Hodge and Greg Fisher in a close game 17/15, and in the other game Steve Ryan Gary McPhee and Peter McPhee having a good win over Mick Valentine Sheldon Orr and Greig Ball 32/21.
SOCIAL BOWLS.
Thursday saw 22 Bowlers on the greens, with the winners being Mike Vaqlentine and John Ward, runners up Bruce Deland and Arthur Corbett, some scores from the day saw Tom Cole, Norm Keane and Warren Bevan in a close win over Bob Freeman, Greig Ball and Eddie McPhee 19/17, Bruce Deland and Arthur Corbett also had a close win over John Hodge and Keith MacRae 22/19, and Mike Valentine and John Ward had a good win over Billy Skinner and Dave Buggie 21/18.
Saturday afternoon, 48 bowlers took to the greens, with the winners being Guy Bennett and Dave Buggie, runners up Wally Grant and Teddy Wright, a couple of close scores from the day saw Chris Dunn and Wally Austin beat Bernie Mitchell and Mike Parkes 17/14, and in a closer game Tom Cole and Elle Hetherington beat Ron Murray and Gwenda Carty 19/18.
SUNDAY JACKPOT BOWLS.
13 players fronted for the chance to crack the jackpot, with Ian Brown playing lead for both sides in the triples. The jackpot did not go off, so $660 this week.
GENERAL NEWS.
Both the Major and Minor Triples draws are up, the Minors have started to play, the Majors can start any time they like, don't wait for the due dates.
BOWLS STARTERS.
Tomorrow, Thursday the 30/5, Terry Hetherington and Mick Craft, Saturday 1st June, Col Mudie and J O'Malley, and next Thursday the 6th John Hodge and Bruce Orr.
