SUNDAY MORNING JACKPOT
24 bowlers turned out to try to try their luck with the $1000 jackpot.
Mike Parkes and Andrew Williams played Mike Blunt and Brian Harrison. Mike and Andrew held a big lead of 15-2 after seven ends. Mike and Brian then staged a mammoth fight-back to go down by one shot, losing 15-16.
Ian Brown and Callan Job led all the way in defeating Bob Freeman and Don Littlewood 17-7.
After dropping four shots on the first end, Tom Cole and Guy Ellery prevailed in a close match against Peter ten Cate and Mal Porter winning 13-10.
Chris Dunn and Craig Henry played Keith Hutchison and Dave Johnson. This match saw the scores locked together at 12-12 after 10 ends. Chris and Craig finished the stronger winning four of the last six ends to win the match 19-15.
Rob Irving and Steve Turner played Greg Townsend and Kevin Hynds. Each team scored a six shot end early in the match. The score was very close after nine ends with Greg and Kevin holding a two shot lead. Rob and Steve then scored a number of multiple shot ends to win the match 23-15.

SOCIAL
Thursday saw 18 bowlers playing three games of pairs and one game of triples.
In the triples match Bob Freeman, Gary McPhee and Mike Valentine played Tom Cole, John Keogh and Joe Crowley. In a close match Joe’s team held a one shot advantage after 14 ends. They then won the next five ends and went on to win 23-16.
Noel Nicholson and Ron Hornery were too strong for Rob Irving and Greig Ball. Noel and Ron had a good lead of 18-7 after 12 ends and went on to win 25-13.
Norm Keane and John Ward played Ray Jones and Wally Austin. Norm and John led 13-9 after 11 ends. Ray and Wally then won seven of the last ten ends to win the match 24-17.
Matthew Parker and John Hodge played Bernie Mitchell and John Carr. Matthew and John scored six shots on the ninth end to establish a lead of 12-4. Despite a comeback from Bernie and John, Matthew and John held on for a good win 19-15. Matthew is a very good junior bowler who will make a name for himself in Parkes bowling ranks.
Thursday’s major prize winners were Noel Nicholson and Ron Hornery and the minor winners were Tom Cole, John Keogh and Joe Crowley.
On Saturday a good field of 34 bowlers played four games of pairs and three games of triples.
John Hodge and Brett Frame were too strong for Norm Keane and Dave Johnson. John and Brett only lost seven ends in recording a big win 34-14. John was clearly the man of the match.
Liz Byrne and John O’Malley played Rhona Went and Bruce Orr. Rhona and Bruce had an 8-2 lead early in the match, then Liz and John dominated the next nine ends and led 14-9 after 16 ends. Rhona and Bruce fought back to level the score 15all after 19 ends. Liz and John scored four shots on the penultimate end and held on to win a close match 19-17.
Keith Alexander and Gary McPhee played Wally Austin and John Corcoran. After 12 ends the score was 14all. Wally and John then won six of the last nine ends to record a good win 31-21.
Ron Hornery and Col Hayward played Tom Furey and Geoff Freeman. Ron and Col, aided by two big multiple scoring ends, got away to lead 14-7 after 13 ends. Tom and Geoff tried hard but were unable to bridge the gap. Ron and Col went on to win the match 20-14. Ron was the stand out bowler of the match and our newest member, Tom Furey, showed that he will become a very competitive bowler.
Bob Freeman, Gwenda Carty and Steve Ryan only allowed their opposition of Laurie Keane, Tony Byrne and Joe Crowley to win six ends. Bob, Gwenda and Steve held a commanding lead of 18-1 after 11 ends and went on to win 30-11. Bob, Gwenda and Steve all played exceptional bowls which made it very difficult for the opposition to get into the match.
Mike Valentine, Ray Jones and Keith MacRae played Greig Ball, Alan Affleck and John Carr. Mike, Ray and Keith held a handy 9-1 lead before Greig, Alan and John fought back to gain the lead 13-12 after 16 ends. Keith’s team then rallied, winning four of the last five ends, and went on to win 22-15.
Col Woods, Alan Hockey and Kevin Hynds played Ron Murray, Bill Skinner and John Ward. It was a very close match with the scores being tied four times. Col, Alan and Kevin scored five shots on the last end to tie the match 21-21. They also won the countback, winning the ends 12-9.
Saturdays major prize winners were Ron Hornery and Col Hayward and the minor winners were Col Woods, Alan Hockey and Kevin Hynds.
This Saturday the club is holding a special St Andrew’s Day bowls event. This is open to all bowlers and non bowlers. Dress is bowls uniform or neat casual. Flat soled shoes must be worn.

Thursday night saw 58 bowlers play in the twilight bowls competition. Other close matches saw Uniting Church defeat Young Guns 10-9 and Throw Together got up in the very last end to defeat Bushies 12-11. It is very pleasing to note that all teams have won at least one game. The major prize winner’s were Casey Surveying with Elle claiming the minor prize. The lucky loser’s prize winner was Young Guns.
