Thursday Attracts 94 Bowlers

Here is the latest news from the Bowlie.
A total of 94 bowlers enjoyed the perfect weather and playing conditions on Thursday. Four played club championship matches, 32 played afternoon social bowls and 58 played in the Twilight competition.

TWILIGHT BOWLS
A big field of 58 bowlers competed on Thursday night.
Three very close matches highlighted the night. Golden Girls scored three shots on the last end to snatch an 11all draw with Bushies. Golden Girls won on a count back. Cracker Jacks had a narrow 10-8 victory over Back Trundle Road and Three Amigos won the last three ends to defeat Turf & Surf 11-10. Another game saw Super Bees defeat Bowling Stones 20-13.
The major prize winning team was Rok=FM with Bowl Bros winning the minor prize. Bushies won the lucky losers prize.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
In Major Singles, Michael Went led 12-0 and went on to defeat Dave Buggie 31-16.
After holding a narrow 17-13 lead, Steve Ryan dominated the final ends to defeat Wally Austin 31-13 in a Minor Singles match.
SOCIAL
On Thursday 32 bowlers played eight games of Pairs.
Col Woods and Geoff Freeman had a 28-20 win over Allan Wright and Dave Johnson.
Mick Craft and John Keogh had a good 26-12 win over Nev Whitfield and John Ward.
Alan Affleck and Col Hayward finished the stronger to defeat Bill Skinner and John Corcoran 25-18.
Wally Grant and Warren Bevan had a narrow 21-17 victory over Mick Blunt and Col Mudie.
After leading 15-5, John Dunn and Kevin Hynds hung on to defeat Bob Freeman and Jim Jennings 18-15.
Graham Barby and Graham Fliedner won the last four ends to defeat Mike Parkes and Arthur Corbett 19-16.
Gordon Dickson and Keith MacRae won five of the last seven ends to defeat Mike Valentine and John Hodge 19-15.
In the last match, Ted Wright and Gary McPhee had a 20 all draw with Bruce Deland and Greig Ball. Ted and Gary won the ends 12-9.
Major winners were Col Woods and Geoff Freeman and the minor winners were Gordon Dickson and Keith MacRae.
A large number of our bowlers were involved with the District Singles Championship. This reduced our Saturday social bowls players to 18. Three games of Pairs and one Triples were played.
John Dunn and Joe Crowley led Bob Freeman and John Ward 28-5 after 14 ends. Bob and John scored 21 shots in the last seven ends to go down narrowly 26-28.
Gordon Dickson and Dave Johnson held a 14-1 lead and then held on to defeat Bill Skinner and Mark Dwyer 20-14.
Col Woods and Kevin Hynds were too strong for Tom Furey and Steve Mills, winning 27-11.
In a game which saw the scores ties six times, Alan Affleck, Mike Valentine and Tony Bright scored one shot on the last end to record a narrow 16-15 win over Bernie Mitchell, Mike Parkes and Geoff Freeman.
Major winners were Gordon Dickson and Dave Johnson and the minor winners were Col Woods and Kevin Hynds.
The club is introducing a new jackpot bowls competition. It will be held on Tuesday evenings with names in by 5:30pm for a 6:00pm start. It will be played over a maximum 15 ends with play to cease by 8:30pm. The jackpot will commence at $200 and will increase each week until won. The first night will be 4th March 2014.
SUNDAY MORNING JACKPOT
14 bowlers played two games of Pairs and one Triples.
Bill Wyatt, Keith Hutchison and Shannon Birmingham had a 17-13 win over Bob Freeman, Don Littlewood and Ted Wright.
Tom Furey and Mal Porter had a big 25-5 win over Steve Mills and Rob Irving.
Peter ten Cate and Kevin Hynds had a good 17-10 win over Mick Blunt and Greg Fisher.
Voucher winners were Tom Furey, Mick Blunt, Keith Hutchison, Shannon Birmingham and Greg Fisher.
The jackpot was not won and now stands at $900.
Come along on Sunday morning for a game of bowls, a sausage sandwich, and a chance to win the jackpot. Names in by 9:30am for a 10:00am start.
