Minor Triples and Fours Decided

MINOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS
The final of the Minor Fours was played on Saturday. It was a very close match highlighted by some very good bowling. Tony Byrne, Tom Furey, Steve Mills and John Dunn were up against Mike Valentine, Greg Townsend, Gary McPhee and Greig Ball. The first half of the match was evenly shared with the score 10 all after 11 ends. End number 12 was a real heartbreaker for team Dunn when team Ball scored seven shots to lead 17-10. Team Dunn fought back, winning six of the next seven ends to grab the lead 20-19 after 19 ends. In a tense final two ends team Ball scored one shot on each end to claim the match 21-20. Congratulations to Mike, Greg, Gary and Greig on their win.
The Minor Triples title was decided on Thursday when Peter McPhee, Steve Ryan and John O’Malley played John Dunn, Wally Grant and Mick Craft. Team O’Malley got away to a good start and led 13-4 after 10 ends. Team Craft narrowed the margin to 17-10 after 17 ends. Team O’Malley then won six of the last eight ends to run out 24-13 winners.
THURSDAY SOCIAL BOWLS
20 bowlers played five games of pairs.
Les Kent and Keith MacRae played Dave Littlewood and Gary McPhee. This was a high scoring game which saw a number of big scoring ends to both teams which resulted in a 19 all score line after 15 ends. Dave and Gary then won the next five ends to record a 30-19 win. It was good to see Dave on the green.
Noel Nicholson and John Corcoran led all the way in their 34-14 win over Bob Freeman and John Ward.
Ray Jones and Warren Bevan only lost six ends in their 25-9 win over Terry Hetherington and Graham Barby.
Cliff Westcott and Mike Valentine had a good 22-14 win over John Watson and Col Mudie.
John Hodge and Graham Fliedner were too strong for Greig Ball and Dave Buggie, winning 23-11.
The major winners were Dave Littlewood and Gary McPhee and the minor winners were the Minor Triples team of Peter McPhee, Steve Ryan and John O’Malley.
SATURDAY SOCIAL BOWLS
20 bowlers played five games of pairs.
Chris Dunn and John Corcoran played Ray Jones and Liz Byrne. Ray and Liz held a narrow 15-12 lead after 11 ends. Chris and John then won eight of the last ten ends to run out 27-20 winners.
Ron Murray and Terry Hetherington had a hard fought 19-13 win over Cliff Westcott and Joe Crowley.
Gordon Dickson and Col Mudie played Keith Alexander and Dave Johnson. Gordon and Col held a narrow 13-12 lead after 13 ends which they extended to 19-12 after 16 ends. Keith and Dave fought back and hit the lead 22-19. Gordon and Col then scored four shots on the last two ends to claim a very narrow 23-22 win.
Bob Riseborough and Graham Barby got out to a 15-5 lead and held their advantage to defeat Ron Hornery and John Ward 23-12.
Phil Betts and Keith MacRae played Bob Freeman and John O’Malley. Phil and Keith held the lead 16-13 after 19 ends. Bob and John scored four shots on the next end to lead 17-16. Phil and Keith scored one shot on the last end for a 17 all draw. Bob and John won the ends 11-10.
The major winners were the Minor Fours team of Mike Valentine, Greg Townsend, Gary McPhee and Greig Ball with the minor winners being Bob Riseborough and Graham Barby.
SUNDAY MORNING JACKPOT
10 bowlers played one game of pairs and one game of triples.
Keith Hutchison, Alan Affleck and Chris Dunn came from behind, winning the last five ends, to defeat Bob Freeman, John Watson and Steve Mills 14-10.
Stuart Kelly and John Dunn scored two shots on the last end to defeat Mal Porter and Dave Johnson 12-11.
Prize winners were Alan Affleck, Dave Johnson, Keith Hutchison and Steve Mills.
The jackpot was not won and increases to $520 next week. Come along on Sunday morning for a game of bowls, a sausage sandwich, and a chance to win the jackpot. Names in by 9:30am for a 10:00am start.
PARKES BOWLING & SPORTS CLUB AGM
The AGM will be held on Monday, September 22 commencing at 7pm.
Nominations for the new committee are being sought from interested members. Positions to be filled are: Chairperson, Deputy Chairpersons (2) and Directors (4). Nominations close on Sunday, August 31.
