Here's the latest from the bowlie.
DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Parkes Bowling and Sports Club Hosted the District Singles and District Seniors Singles Championships last weekend.
Our Club was well represented in both events and provided the four Semi-finalists in the Singles event and three of the Semi-finalists in the Seniors Singles.
The Singles Final was between Brett “Baldy” Frame, who beat Tom Furey in one Semi-final, and Graham “Flip” Fliedner, who had a win over Michael Went in the other Semi-final.
The final was a very close game with Flip playing very strongly in the early ends to lead at one stage 17 – 4. Baldy gradually got back in to the game and reduced the lead to three shots, with Flip leading 23 – 20. The final ends were split fairly evenly with the Match and the Championship going to Flip, scoring two shots on the last end to win 31 – 26.
In the Seniors Singles event, John Hodge had a win over a Condobolin player to reach the Final. The other Semi-final went to Col Hayward over Graham Barby. The Final was won fairly convincingly by Col Hayward to claim the District Seniors Singles Championship for 2016.
The previous weekend Col and Graham had teamed together at Parkes Railway/Diggers to win the District Seniors Pairs Championship and Rob Irving and Craig Henry had reached the Final of The District Presidents Pairs event at Peak Hill but could not overcome the Condobolin pair in the Final.
Congratulations to all our Bowlers who competed in the District events and especially our 2016 District Champions.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Only one match was played last week, a Major Singles game between John Corcoran and Dave Johnson, which was won fairly convincingly by John Corcoran.
SOCIAL BOWLS
Thursday, February 18.
Six games of Pairs were played with some interesting results.
Col Woods and Ron Fisher had a very close game against Mike Valentine and Gordon Dickson which finished with the scores level. Col and Ron had the best of the early ends to lead 8 – 1 after four ends. The lead was gradually reduced by Mike and Gordon and the scores were level, 8 all, after eight ends. From there on the scores were fairly even but Mike and Gordon lead 15 – 12 before Col and Ron scored five shots on the nineteenth end to lead 17 – 15. The last two ends were won by Mike and Gordon, scoring one shot on each end, to level the scores 17 all. Thirteen of the twenty one ends were won by Mike and Gordon for them to claim the match.
In the match between Col Mudie and Mick Craft and Geoff Freeman and Ray Jones, Geoff and Ray were too good early on and after sixteen ends lead 19 – 11, but, Col and Mick scored fifteen shots on the last five ends to run out winners 26 – 19.
In other matches Ron Hornery and George Bradley defeated Guy Ellery and John Watson, Ted Wright and John Taylor won over Joe Crowley and Bob Freeman, Warren Bevan and Rob Irving just got home against Col Hayward and Les Kent. The final match went to John Ward and Graham Barby over John Carr and Keith MacRae.
The Winners prize on the day went to Warren Bevan and Rob Irving and the Runners Up prize went to George Bradley and Ron Hornery.
Saturday, February 13.
With so many players involved in District Championships, only two games of Pairs were played.
Col Woods and Mick Blunt got away to a flying start to win the first four ends and lead 9 – 0 before Gordon Dickson and John Watson won the next eight ends to lead 16 – 9 . From there on Col and Mick won all of the remaining ends, except one, to take the match 24 – 18.
In the other match, Ron Fisher and Les Kent proved too good for Rob Irving and Jim Blake.
TWILIGHT BOWLS.
THURSDAY, February 18.
A field of 48 players, the best of the competition so far, played eight games of Triples.
The closest match of the night ended in a thirteen all draw between 1300 Bugmen and Central West Marine. The scores fluctuated all night with the lead changing hands six times. The Mariners looked to have the game won, when they lead 13 – 10 with one end to play, but the Bugmen replied strongly scoring three shots on the last end to tie the scores.
A match between The Battlers and The Super B’s resulted in a one sot win to The Battlers. In spite of leading 13 – 7 after eight ends, The Battlers conceded nine shots on the next three ends to be down by three shots. The Battlers came home very strongly and, on the last end scored the four shots they needed to take the match 17 – 16.
In another close game Loopy Loppers No. 2 were down 8 – 9 before scoring three shots on the ninth end to take the lead 11- 9 and maintain the margin to win by two shots, 13 - 11.
Others winners were, High Rollers, Purple People, Three Amigos, Bowlbros and Central West Glass.

Come along and buy the winning tickets in the “Early Birds” meat tray raffle at about 6.30pm followed by the major raffle with prizes of meat trays, vouchers and cash which will be drawn at about 8 o’clock.
Great Pub style meals are available at reasonable prices from Mel’s Café.
The Badge Draw was not won last week, and this week is $1,100.
