Here’s the latest from the Bowlie.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.
On Wednesday evening, the Mixed Fours Championship got underway.
The team of Col Hayward, Gwenda Carty, John Hodge and Cherie Frame had the better of the early ends but after fifteen ends Mike Went, Robyn Morgan, Tom Casey and Rhona Went jumped out to lead 20-9. Col’s team five of the last six ends but could not bridge the gap and Mike’s team progressed to the next round with a 21- 15 win.
In the other Mixed Fours match, Tom Furey, Maree Grant, Wally Grant and Maureen Miller started well and after eight ends lead 10-5. It wasn’t until the thirteenth end that Pat Cooney, Col Mudie, Margaret Hawken and Graham Barby hit the front, scoring a six, to lead 18-13. From there on Pat’s team found form and went on to win 33-15.
On Saturday, November 25, the second Semi-Final of the Handicap Singles was played. With the help of a two shot handicap advantage George Boatswain went to an early lead and, in spite of all Rob’s efforts, was able to maintain the lead throughout the match. George went on to win in fine style, scoring a maximum four shots on the twentieth end to advance to the final, with a win 25-15.
On Sunday, November 26 a Semi-Final of the Mixed Pairs was played in very hot conditions. Scores were close throughout the game and after 15 ends Gary McPhee and Kim Evans lead Peter McPhee and Cherie Frame 18-15.At this point, Kim who had been feeling the heat, asked for a break in play as she was not well. A substitute could not be found on short notice and Gary agreed to play on by himself. Peter and Cherie went on to win the match 25-20 and advanced to the final.
SOCIAL BOWLS.
Thursday, November 23.
Twenty Bowlers turned out for a game of “Scroungers” with the added difference of playing two games, one of ten ends and one of eleven (although some teams only played ten ends in the second game). This made it difficult to determine a winning team and prize winners were drawn from a hat. On the basis of completed ends only one team won both games with Steve Turner and Dave Buggie scoring 77 points in winning their matches.
The Prize winners on the day were Col Woods and Ted Wright and the Runners-up prize went to Gary McPhee and John Watson
Saturday, November 25.
In fairly hot conditions, five games of Pairs were played.
The match between Col Mudie/ Bruce Orr and John Ward/ Greg Huggins had a rather dramatic ending. Col and Bruce had had the lead nearly all afternoon and with three ands to play they were in front 19-10. The next end saw John and Greg score a single shot but the still trailed by eight shots. I’m not sure how it happened but on the final two ends John and Greg scored a six and a three to claim the match 29-19.
Playing some brilliant bowls, John Taylor and (in particular) Joe Crowley had the lead from the outset and after seventeen ends lead Ron Hornery and George Bradley 16-8. On the eighteenth end Ron and George scored a five but Joe and John re-found form on the last two ends to win 20-13.
In other matches;
Dave Johnson and John Watson had a win against Col Hayward and Gordon Dickson.
Gary McPhee and Col Woods were too good for Geoff and Bob Freeman.
Tom Furey and Ray Jones proved too strong for Keith MacRae and John Carr.
Twilight Bowls.
Another great night of Bowls with 60 players turning out to play ten games of Triples with one match drawn, some close and some not so close.
In the drawn match, High Rollers jumped out to lead 7-0 after four ends and looked likely winners, leading 12-9 with one end to play. On the last end Purple People scored three shots to level the scores, 12 all.
Two of our new teams had close wins against more established teams. The Misfits lead all the way to just beat Happy Wanderers 16-14 and Toyota Turtles had a narrow win over Pink, 13-10.
Loopy Loppers had their full complement of six players available and fielded two teams with mixed results. Loopy Loppers 1 had a convincing win against Hodgey’s Heroes but the No. 2 side were well beaten by Rebelle.
Other results were;
Parkes GP had a good win against Elvii, 22-12.
We Wreck ‘em “N” We Fix ‘em defeated Central West Glass 13-5.
Bowls Bros. were too good for Beer “N” End.
Casey Surveying had a hard fought, but good win against Golden Girls.
Born Bowlers defeated Three Amigos 17-10.

Badge Draw.
The Badge Draw was not won last Friday and will be worth $1900 this week and will be drawn on Friday night sometime after 8pm, after the meat and voucher raffles. You have to be there to win it so come along and have a great pub style meal and may be go home with a bundle of cash in your pocket.
