Here is the latest from the Bowlie.
Thursday 6th September.
Not real fantastic weather to begin with and it showed with only 4 rinks of keen bowlers vying for the jackpot money.
In the only game of triples Mal Porter, John Carr and Col Hayward 27 had a comfortable win against the 3 of Bob Freeman, John Dunne and Col Mudie 8.
In pairs Greg Huggins and Gary McPhee started out OK but were over run by Gordon Dickson and Keith MacRae 27 shots to 12. Steve Mills and George Bradley 33 led all the way to defeat Joe Crowley and Ron Hornery 12. Wally Grant and Ray Jones 26 defeated Rob Irving 17.
The jackpot of $110 was not won.
Saturday 8th September.
On a beautiful cloudless spring day one game of triples and three games of pairs were played with the following results;
Gladryn Sun, Steve Ryan and John Carr 15 fell victim to Greg Huggins, Rob Tinker and Keith MacRae 29. John’s team came out strong at the beginning but faded away around the 7th end. Good to see Rob Tinker out and about competing again.
In pairs, Ray Jones who is playing extremely well combined with Baldy Frame who played his normal standard of great bowls to easily overcome Steve Turner and Gary McPhee 31 to 12. In other games John Watson and Mark Dwyer 24 led all the way to defeat Rob Irving and John Ward 18. In the last pairs game Bruce Orr and Col Mudie 23 had a narrow win over Joe Crowley and Col Hayward 21.
The jackpot of $120 was not won.
Sunday 9th September.
Another great day of weather welcomed 14 bowers to the greens on Sunday afternoon for our beer, bowls, food and footy afternoon.
In triples, skip Gary McPhee overcome a tough run of losses to combine with Liz Byrne (players player) and Rose Sadiasa; 29 to have a comfortable win against Lorraine Baker, Ted Wright and Greg Townsend; 10.
In pairs Rob Irving and Maree Grant 16 had a close call against Cherie Frame and Rhone Went 15 and in the other game the battle of the elite bowlers went down to the wire with Garry Carberry and Baldy Frame 19 defeating Tom Furey and Col Hayward 17.
The jackpot of $130 was not won.
Just a reminder to all players that all monies raised on Sundays goes towards our new club bowls shirts so please come a support a good cause.
We have gained a major sponsor and sleeve sponsor for our new bowls shirts and those sponsors will be named in the very near future. If you know of anybody who may be interested in sponsoring the other sleeve please contact Gary McPhee or Tom Furey.
Next Saturday at 1pm we are hosting approximately 55 bowlers from Belrose and if you are interested in playing please place your name in the green book on the bar. We need big numbers to make this day a truly great success.
And always remember if you cannot win, be a gracious loser. You will always be remembered for that.
