Here is the latest from the Bowlie.
Last Thursday there were 22 social bowlers who played four games of pairs and one rink of triples were played. In the pairs Joe Crowley Arthur Corbett 12 were defeated by two senior players in Gordon Dickson John Ward 23, who led all the way. Rob Irving Col Hayward 32 defeated John Watson Col Mudie 11, Ray Jones Guy Ellery 23 defeated Graham Barby Keith MacRae 10. Steve Ryan Geoff Freeman 22 defeated Jim Blake John Corcoran 15.In the triples game Greg Huggins Bob Freeman Wally Grant 29 defeated Bill Skinner Trevor Harvey Steve Mills 9. Wally Grant's team led all the way from start to finish in convincing fashion and confined the opposition to winning just 5 ends. Winners on the day were Steve Ryan and Geoff Freeman with the runners up being the triples game of Greg Huggins Bob Freeman Wally Grant.
With wet conditions on Saturday just one game of minor singles was played. The results of that was Greg Huggins 31, Les Kent 29. Les led handsomely throughout the match until the 25th end when the score was 25 all, and 32nd end 29 all. Greg picked up a 1 on the next two ends to run out the winner.truly a nail biter.
Also on the weekend, Greg Howlett contested the semifinals of the Zone 4 Presidents Singles at Dubbo Railway Bowling Club. After winning his first game on Saturday morning, he was beaten in the next game in the afternoon. Greg had won the right to play at Dubbo by winning the previous weekend in a field of 16 bowlers at the Parkes Railway Diggers Bowling Club. He should be proud of this achievement.
Next weekend Tom Casey and Gary Carberry, winners of the Championship Pairs at the Parkes Bowling and Sports Club will travel to Condobolin to contest the Zone 4 Pairs Champion of Club Champions. Paul Went will play in Orange on the weekend of the 21st to contest the Zone 4 Singles Champion of Club Champions.
Bowlers are reminded of the Century 21 Real Estate sponsored two bowl pairs tournament on 22nd July. This will consist of 3 games of 10 ends. Names to be in by 10am for a 1pm start.
A Pennant trail will be conducted at the Parkes Railway Diggers Bowling Club on Saturday July 28th and a return game at Parkes on Sunday August 12th to prepare players for the State Playoffs in August.
Bowlers are reminded of the Annual General Meeting to be held on the 7th August, with prospective nominations to close on the 31st July. This is the chance for all members to help out in the running of bowls at the club for the following twelve months.
