Here is the latest from the Bowlie.
Finally the last of the competition games for the year have been completed over the last couple of days.
On Friday night the Mixed Fours Final was fought out between Rhona Went, Tom Casey, Robyn Morgan and Mick Went Versus Janelle Ross, Guy Ellery, Cheree Frame and Baldy Frame. In a tight game where there was only one 3 shot win on end 18 by team Frame got off to a good start scoring 5 shots on the first four ends. After what turned out to be a tight tussle until the14th end team Frame finally came out on top winning 17 to 11.
A special mention to Janelle Ross who as a lead with little competition experience, laid the foundation with bowls in the head on most ends. Congratulations Janelle, who by the way started her bowls in the Thursday night twilight competition; a concept from where a lot of bowlers transition to competition bowls in the mens and ladies sections.
On Saturday 32 bowlers attended our presentation day with 8 of those bowlers contesting the Minor Fours Final. The formidable team of Wilbur Harris, Martin Tighe, Guy Ellery and Steve Turner played Ian Simpson, John Dunne, Rob Irving and Greg Howlett. Team Turner run out convincing winners 19 to 7 in a game where they just played too well against Team Howlett who struggled on the day to match them shot for shot.
In social bowls Gary McPhee and Gary Carberry played Maccas Mobile Cool room sponsors Eddie McPhee (Narromine Bowling Club) and his brother Peter McPhee. In a very close game the two Gary's prevailed with a 19 to 18 win.
Mal Porter and Pat Cooney 26 had a comfortable win over Gary Went and Greg Townsend 8.
Keith Macrae and Col Mudie defeated Col Woods and Dave (major) Johnson 19 to 17.
Greg Huggins and Col Hayward 24 had a convincing win over Tom Furey and Mark Dwyer 11.
Bob Freeman and Brett (Baldy) Frame 14 were defeated by John Carr and Geoff Freeman 19.
After completion of all social and the Minor Fours Final game all players retired to the club house for a bbq and salad tea which was followed by the presentation of all prizes and trophies for Championship winners.
The winners and runners up of all championships and sponsors will be advised in next weeks missive but I would like to take this moment to thank the following;
Rob Kelly from the Star Hotel who graciously volunteered his services to cook the meat so I could compete; Ladies bowling Club members Rhona Went,Jan McPhee and Kim Evans for the salads; and board members Rhona Went, Liz Byrne and Tom Furey for washing up and cleaning the kitchen after the meal. All of your efforts are much appreciated by the bowling men.
