DISTRICT PENNANTS
Grade 6 played Forbes at Parkes Bowling & Sports Club and had a very convincing 88-35 win.
Team results were:
Chris Dunn, Joe Crowley, Gary McPhee and Kevin Hynds won 40-8.
Nimo Mills, Graham Dixon, Bruce Orr and Ron Hornery won 19-13.
Noel Nicholson, John Dunn, Ted Wright and Keith MacRae won 29-14.
Grade 7 played Peak Hill at Peak Hill and lost narrowly 58-53.
Team results were:
Alan Affleck, Bill Skinner, Rob Irving and Greg Townsend won 20-15.
Tony Byrne, Gordon Dickson, Wally Austin and Steve Turner had a 20 all draw.
Ron Murray, Col Woods, Stuart Kelly and Wally Austin lost 13-23.
Next Sunday both Grade 6 and Grade 7 are at home against Railway Diggers.
Pennant practice for Grades 1 and 4 will be held on Sunday, March 29 commencing at 1:30pm.
PARKES CELLARS DAY
42 bowlers turned out last Saturday for the Parkes Cellars sponsored event.
Some of the results were:
John Francis, Katie McNaughton and Chris McNaughton scored seven shots on the last two ends to snatch a 20 all draw with Ben McGirr, Vance Unger and Wally Norman.
Scrubber Evans, Vince Robinson and Tony Piesley scored a narrow 15-10 win over Steve Lee, Peter Boschman and Ben McNaughton.
Steve Ryan, Tony Bright and Bruce Orr won the last four ends to win 17-15 against John Hodge, Gwenda Carty and Col Hayward.
The day concluded with a very enjoyable meal prepared by Mike’s Kitchen.
Many thanks to Chris, Ben, Katie and the rest of the team from Parkes Cellars for a great day.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
Two major pairs matches were played on Saturday.
Wilbur Harris and Mark Dwyer played Wally Grant and Mick Craft. Wilbur and Mark held a 18-6 lead after 11 ends. Wally and Mick then won the next two ends to reduce the margin to 18-14. Wilbur and Mark dominated the rest of the match and went on to record a 30-15 win.
Garry and Mick Went played Nimo Mills and Tom Furey. The first half of the match was very close with Garry and Mick holding a narrow 11-9 lead after 10 ends. They then won the next four ends to extend their lead to 17-9 and went on to win the match 23-12.
THURSDAY TWILIGHT BOWLS
Last Thursday 62 bowlers competed in ideal conditions.
We Wreck ‘M N We Fix ‘M scored eight shots on the last three ends to go down narrowly 11-10 to Battlers.
After leading 13-0 Elle held on to defeat the fast finishing Mike’s Kitchen 19-15.
High Rollers won the last three ends to record a come from behind 13-11 win over Elle.
Casey Surveying 1 scored eight shots on the last two ends to defeat Bushies 12-11.
Casey Surveying 2 had a narrow 11-10 win over Super Bees.
Other winners on the night were Back Trundle Road 1, Bowl Bros, Two and a Half Fitters, Saints, Bowling Stones and Central West Glass.
Major prize winner was High Rollers with the minor prize winner being Central West Glass. The lucky losers prize went to Mike’s Kitchen.
THURSDAY JACKPOT BOWLS
24 bowlers played six games of pairs.
Bob Freeman and Col Hayward played Rob Irving and Col Mudie. Rob and Col, aided by a seven shot end, held an early 10-2 lead. Bob and Col then proceeded to win 11 of the next 12 ends to lead 19-12. The last six ends were evenly shared with the final score being a 22-15 win to Bob and Col.
In a low scoring game Allan Wright and Steve Ryan scored an 18-11 win over Bernie Mitchell and Joe Crowley.
John Keogh and John Ward played Mike Valentine and Keith MacRae. This was a game which saw the lead change six times with the two Johns picking up four shots on the penultimate end and went on to win 20-17.
John Hodge and Arthur Corbett played Ron Fisher and John Corcoran. Ron and John held an early 10-3 lead. John and Arthur then won five of the next six ends and held a 16-11 lead. Ron and John fought back and scored 10 shots in winning the next four ends to regain the lead 21-16 and went on to win the game 22-17.
Bill Skinner and Dave Buggie scored 10 shots on the last four ends to record a come from behind 23-17 win over John Watson and Gary McPhee.
Les Kent and Kevin Hynds played Wally Austin and John Dunn. Les and Kevin led 13-3 after 11 ends before Wally and John fought back to level the score at 16 all after 19 ends. Les and Kevin won the last two ends to record a 20-16 win.
The major prize winners were Les Kent and Kevin Hynds and the minor winners were Bill Skinner and Dave Buggie. The jackpot was not won and will be $200 tomorrow.
SUNDAY MORNING JACKPOT
8 bowlers played two games of pairs.
After leading 8-0 Chris Dunn and Maureen Bailey went on to defeat Mal Porter and Rhona Went 17-11.
Mick Blunt and Mike Valentine won the last two ends to have a 13 all draw with John Watson and Tom Furey.
Prize winners were Chris Dunn, Tom Furey and John Watson.
The jackpot was not won and remains at $1000. The jackpot number range has been reduced to 9 so come along on Sunday morning for a game of bowls, a sausage sandwich, and a chance to win the jackpot. Names in by 9:30am for a 10:00am start.
EASTER MONDAY TOURNAMENT
The Rob and Joyce Irving sponsored day will commence at 1:00pm. The format of the day is still being finalised and will be announced next week.
